Live update confusion
I'm a bit confused about the Live player updates, and how they are determined. An example: Aaron Nola in July has a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 43 Ks in 39.1 IP. In the last week he has a 3.29 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 15 Ks in 13.2 IP. Both subsets are below his yearlong stats, yet he has gone from being 79 OVR on July 1 down to 73 OVR on July 22, and 71 OVR on the most recent update. Is this the case of a player being punished by a terrible start to the year? Or is there something else I'm missing?

You're missing the home runs and walks -- 3 HR on July 18 alone, and quite a few walks this year. He currently has a career high FIP, which is what the ratings are based on. Home runs are up all over, and a lot of LIVE pitchers are suffering.

pitcher ratings are based on just 3 things
strikeout rate (stuff) home runs allowed rate (movement) walk rate (control) then some modifiers for stamina/fielding to get the overall. everything else is irrelevant. |
