I just sold one of his card today, too. Hell of a ball player... Can you imagine your rookie year playing with the likes of Lemon, Wynn, and Feller... Last edited by webdox; 07-24-2019 at 07:01 PM. |

I had that 1959 card when I was 9. I remember the sports writing of the day used to make fun of his looks--"ugly" was often used. He and Ray Narleski were the model for "righty-lefty" bullpens in the mid-1950's. That he became a starter was actually a big deal at the time because he was so good out of the pen.
He's been a tremendous pitcher for me in PT, particularly in the lower levels starting out. One of my favorites, sorry to hear of his passing.
