The Berlin Bears have a good shot to win the division

Just looked through my league of the new season and look what I found

The owners' names are different, so there's at least a chance that it's not the same guy, which would be pretty awesome.

lil update: it's looking good for the Bears, 1-2 in the division right now but it's still very close. No shenanigans going on either, they're 6-6 against each other.

Hard to believe the Crowley Creepers were a playoff team at this level last season. Its been a bit of a perfect storm of futility, as most of our significant contributors have all decided to underperform at the same time. We'll get 'em next time around though

The Bear is on the official seal for the city of Berlin and the cities adopted animal. It is very possible out of the almost ten thousand teams that are out there that two would pick the same name.

To end up in the same league and then the same division is much more unlikely. But I don't think there are any shenanigans going on here.

Also, there is a professional hockey team names the Berlin Ice Bears, so the precedent is there as well.
