Starting in 1871
If I start a league in 1871, will new teams come into the league during the same time as they did in real life? Will I have correct logos etc...?

If you started a historical game in that year, yes.
With the caveat that pre-1901 isn't 100% accurate for various reasons. |

If you enabled the option in league setup, it will follow real history.

As long as you have all the correct logos in the correct folder yes, and that they are labeled properly.
Note: don't know if this changed on 14 vs 13 and before but the game brings in the White Sox (not to be confused with the White Stockings/Cubs) in 1882 vs 1901. |

Is historical replay available out of the box in this manner or do you need mods?

It is available from the Create New historical game. To make it accurate you need mods. facegen/photos, stadiums, jerseys/logos. I have 2 historical leagues. 1871- 2010 started on 11 carried onto 13 and soon 14. Currently in 1916 with No Pepper uniforms, the all 115 stadium set ( no clue who made this) and justafan logos. My other is a 1901 White Sox history which is stuck in 1901.

Thanks for the quick reply! Can I use existing mods, especially for player portraits or do i need to wait until they are released for this version of the game?

Gambo's early and Historical parks There was someone who posted all the uniforms and logos in order by year just a few days ago look for it in the Mods section. I use this file for parks until 1950 when i switch to Gambo's set. All 115 MLB Ball Parks - New Layout.zip |

I've tried this a few times. I prefer using a fictional set up that follows history. The only other way to accurately recreate history in the 19th century is to make manual changes and redo the db files. It has been a long time since I did this so I don't know if the old way still works. I had to go back to the csv files because I could not edit the .xml.
Out of the box historical is a quasi-realistic set up. I am not sure the engine has been updated to deal with contractions and leagues appearing and disappearing. Instead of NA,NL, AA, UA, and PL you get a non-historical AL and NL to start with. Prior to 1901 the teams are not accurate. If you want I have spreadsheets for the contractions and expansions as well as foreign % by the year up to 1920. I could post them on OOTP mods or somewhere else. I modified an old spreadsheet that started in 1901 to include the 19th century for the list of teams and stadiums. The other spreadsheet list players by country and % of player pool for each year from 1876 to 1919. This can be used when using fictionally created players to set the percentages correctly each year for player creation. I also added 19th century logos and unis according to the new mod features so they auto load. Unfortunately, manually editing leagues does not allow logos to auto load. When you add team it creates a city and name before you change it. The new unis appear when you change city and name but the logo has to be manually loaded. A couple of uniforms are not loading for reasons I haven't figured out. |

I did create a 1871-1901 fictional league with having just the original 1871 teams, releasing all players and coaches when they contracted and adding teams without using an expansion draft. I got to 1874 before I ditched the idea once i found out how 14 will handle logo and uniforms. I do plan on creating this league on 14 but as i said it will be fictional not historical.
1871 National Association Season Summary - Baseball-Reference.com I believe you can do this manually using Spritz DB, but not positive if he has all the players. |

Starting in 1871
Yeah I don't need correct players on correct teams. Just wondering if league would have expansion like in real life with teams coming into the league, moving etc... I'm fine with players being on different teams than real life, I actually want it that way.

Is starting in 1901 much easier and more accurate than starting in 1871?

The league will expand normally but most teams that normally appear in 1901 come in at 1882. Some teams that played in the old NA, AA and original NL are not part of OOTP.

It may not be accurate, but its kind of fun to see the really oldtimers' names on your roster. I picked up chaps named Cap Anson and George Wright. I traded Ross Barnes two years after he hit 440 for me. It is a bit surreal and relaxing to play in a dawn of modern baseball.
Thanks for all the sage advice. |
