Outfield arm ratings for OOTP vs. Strat

Hi Guys,
I come from the board game baseball world. Having transitioned last year to OOTP for my historical seasons, the outfielders arm ratings don't make sense to me. Let me explain... for Strat, the range ratings are on a 1-5 basis, with 1 being the best. Arm ratings vary from -6 (Roberto Clemente) to a +2 or +3, think Harmon Killebrew. In OOTP, at least for my 1960s historical sims, it seems the majority of the range ratings are very, very generous for guys that in Strat had average to below average arms. For example, in 1964 Willie Mccovey has a 98 on arm rating...Mets George Altman a 97 and Mets Larry Elliot a 95.I'm not complaining since the final league replay numbers are very good. Just looking to understand more about how OOTP derives the numbers. Thx!

AFAIK either 125 or 100 is average so those ratings you note are all below average either way.

My top 4 outfielders' arms are rated as between 150-170 on a 1-250 scale, so under 100 seems pretty bad for me, even in left. Unless they had enormous range to help offset that low arm, such that I might play them in left, I'd probably use them as a DH, 1B, or 3B.

Thanks for the replies. I neglected to mention I have ratings set at 1-100, so the high 90s seem unusually generous. I get a guy like Clemente having a 100, but seeing McCovey at 98 puzzles me.

Ahhh... So, I created a 1960's historical league. Yup. I see what you mean now. Having lived through that era and watched a lot of those players, I can see that it's puzzling as well. I can't address the issue since I have no knowledge of why it looks like that. I'd make changes to things like that if I wanted it to match the way players were perceived back then. It's difficult to identify issues like that without living through it or having a handy "1965 Official Players Rating Guide." I plan to play that era, but not with historical players.
