The amount of frustration this game brings upon me is insane
I have my Cubs dynasty with Bryce Harper and a pitching staff that led the league in ERA en Route to a 113 win season. I Get to the playoffs and face the wildcard braves. I win the first game, the second game I am up 4 runs in the seventh and proceed to give up 5 runs and go on to lose that game and the next two and the 113 win powerhouse is out in the first round of the playoffs. it is not so much the loss but the amount of tiem it will take to get back to the playoffs and I don't think I have ever been so frustrated. Please other people post your horrible playoff stories and talk me off the ledge over here, haha.

I haven't won the World Series yet in '19 and I play as the Indians. It should be pretty easy but 110 wins and swept in 1st round of playoffs has happened to me a couple of times. The closest I've come I was up 3-2 in the WS to the Dodgers and then lost games 6 and 7.

The '96 Raccoons went 108-54 in the regular season, swept the Falcons in the best-of-seven CLCS and then lost one, two, three to the Rebels in the World Series. Struggled a bit with the noose around the neck, but eventually suffocated in six games.
That was also the only 100-wins team I ever had.

I'm in 2022 with the Blue Jays, career win record over .600 but never won a single playoff series. It's beginning to get annoying.

I love these stories they say it’s a lot easier to suffer with others than to suffer alone so I’m glad we have each other haha.

Playing as the Padres, I can only wish I had your frustration in the playoffs. It takes me two seasons to get 113 wins.

In my Colorado Rockies project I got to the point where I dreaded the post-season. While the team has won two championships at this point (early in 2005 season now, started with inaugural 1993 season) far more often I have seen this dominant team I developed completely collapse in the playoffs. I don't have any of the details in front of my right now, but I recall one season where we dominated the N.L. and (as I recall) won 110 games, then lost to a wild-card team that barely finished over .500 in the first round of the playoffs. I think we might have won a single game in the series.
During a three-season stretch my team won 116, 125, and 116 wins respectively. Only in the 125-win season did we take the championship. Our only other championship came in a season where we were the Wild Card team (again, to the best of my recollection.) I suppose this is as it should be. Winning it all is tough in real life. It should be tough in OOTP as well. But boy can it be stressful. (It's just a game, I have to keep reminding myself. Just a game. Aaaargh.) |

LOL here is an eleven year old thread with the same lament. Note I was one of the whiners.

In MLB history, 4 teams have won 111 or more games in a season. Only went on to win the WS. Twice that occurred when there were no playoffs and both teams lost. With wild cards and three rounds of playoffs, it's unlikely that the best record counts for that much, especially since home field advantage (compared to basketball or football), is relatively weak. Even the 1927 Yankees (110-44), renowned as the greatest team ever, lost 4 in a row to Washington (82-72), and Cleveland (66-87.) In fact, the Yanks barely won the season series with Cleveland, going just 12-10. Bad luck, bad morale, and bad matchups can always bite a team.
The only thing I do to minimize the frustration is to change my standard from winning the WS, to having the best record in baseball. It's much less satisfying, but a great deal less frustrating when I lose in the playoffs. Last edited by Drstrangelove; 07-28-2018 at 03:44 PM. |

What really grinds my gears is when I get to the playoffs and all of a sudden nobody on my team can pitch or hit. After playing every game of a 162 game season going out with a wimper is maddening. Luckily I really like the free agency period so when I get knocked out I can start simming.

There is a "secret" cockiness number in the coding that dramatically increases your chances of this with every acquisition of a superstar in the game. If you field a lineup that features Trout, Machado, Ohtani, Judge, Stanton, Betts and Altuve. And send Kershaw, Sale and Scherzer, among others, to the mound, then your "cockiness" number is off the charts.
By the way, it is doubled if you have draft pick trading turned on. So be careful. j/k ...or am I? |
