How do I remove someone from the active roster?

I have 25 players on the active roster and 31 players on the secondary roster. How can I make space in the active roster by removing a player from that roster without removing him from the secondary roster?

Check for players with just a * after their name. That indicates they have options left where they can be sent to the minors. Players with *^ and *^+ respectively may decline and just can't be sent down. Some players can be out of options *+ before they have the right to refuse via the ^.

If it turns out you want to send a + player to the minors you must waive him.

Is there a way to send someone to the 40-man temporarily while I wait for him to clear waivers? My active list is full and I want to reactivate someone from the DL today.

If they're on your major league roster, they'll be on your 40-man by default.

I think what you're looking for is "Waive and Designate for Assignment". That'll give you 10 days to decide what to do with the player.

Do you understand option years and Professional Service time? MLB roster rules can be complex.

The simple answer is to demote a player to AAA. You can do it in their player profile or by right clicking their name.

If the player has no option years left you must waive them or release them. At that time most players also designate them for assignment because it pulls them off of the 25 man roster so they can move another player onto it.

If any of this does not make sense then post here and check the manual.

Good luck,
Tom
