Welcome to The Association! The Association is a fictional baseball simulation that takes place in the near future. The Association can be described as having a high priority on activity (Community, Writing, and Exports), with scouting enabled, a different take on financials, a free agent draft with lottery draft order, and a high priority on transactions and shrewd team management.

As stated in the OP, the Association has a different take on financials and free agency. Let me explain...

Each player in the Association receives the same monetary compensation - $1 Million annually. Since money isn't an issue, team finances are no longer part of the equation either. No need to worry about making enough cash to sign those pricey free agents. The difference is now the length of the contracts. Contracts vary from 1-year to 5-years with great talents receiving life-time contracts. These "lifers" have no-trade clauses, so think long and hard before sliding a life-time contract offer across the table.

Now each off-season, teams must evaluate their crop of potential free agents and decide who to re-sign and who to let walk. This isn't an easy task as teams can only re-sign five players with everyone else joining the pool of free agents eligible for the draft. After re-signing your five players, it's still possible one of your re-signs may declare himself eligible for the free agent draft. If so, you get a compensatory pick. If you want him bad enough, you can always pick him in the free agent draft and sign him to a new contract.

Don't worry about keeping track of all these contracts, with the help of OOTP, the commissioners will update everyone throughout the season.

Is this open to OOTP newbs?

I'm keen to find a league that doesn't mind me languishing in last place for a few seasons while I wrap my head around the game. On the plus side, I'm good for some written output and I'm reliable.

Not a problem in the Association. We have a couple GM's with their first online seasons under their belts now. We also a good group of helpful GM's always willing to answer a question or provide some OOTP knowledge!
