Suspension

Did this guy get off easy?

Quote:
League Issues Martínez 2-Game Suspension: Louisville shortstop Jorge Martínez has been suspended for 2 games for an on-field tirade with an umpire that left Martínez standing in his socks. He was ejected from the Sluggers-Regina game for disputing a strike call. Martínez let fly with a flurry of expletives, threw down his bat and hat, then went nose-to-nose with the umpire, bobbing his head and screaming. He turned to kick the dirt around home plate, ripped off his shoe and showed it to the umpire, then pulled back his sleeve and shoved his armpit toward the umpire's face. Martínez continued to argue, kicking off his other shoe. Another umpire stepped between them. After slamming the second shoe down, the irate player went over to the Sluggers dugout, fished out a batting doughnut from a bag, then paired it with another to make a mock pair of eyeglasses before slamming both weights down.

The tour de farce ended after several minutes of confrontation. Martínez finally retrieved his bat, shouted a few more choice words and walked into the dugout. A bat boy retrieved his shoes and hat...and his eyeglasses, too.

Martínez did not return a message seeking comment today.

This season Martínez has hit at a .286 clip with 42 RBIs, 3 home runs and 89 runs scored.
Only 2 games for that tirade?

Meh. Just an average afternoon for Lou Piniella.

The player didn't make physical contact with the umpire, so, personally, I don't think it warrants a suspension. His refusal to leave the field right away is technically the only thing that violates the rules. Of course, MLB might see fit to suspend someone for causing a scene like that and for the armpit gesture, but without a physical incident, a couple of games is probably the maximum you would see.

Well, nose to nose is touching

I was thinking more along the lines of a hefty fine though. Which would probably happen irl too.
