2034 recap
Another hamstring injury wrecked the 2034 season for Franco- he hit just .277 with 101 hits. The Rays fell back to earth with a 61-101 record. Franco is under contract for $46 million next year and will need another extension after that.
Through his age 33 season, he has 2669 hits, and he's falling behind the curve a bit. By comparison: -Pete Rose had 2337 hits -Ty Cobb had 2856 -Ichiro Suzuki had 2870 (including Japanese leagues) |

2038 recap
Franco made it through the season relatively unscathed, but had a down year with the bat, hitting just .276 with 172 hits. He won his third straight Gold Glove. He's up to 3330 hits on his career and is now #10 on the all-time list. The Rays went just 56-106 on the season.
A quick glance around the league- Mike Trout retired a few years go and when I searched, I found an amusing treat for Breaking Bad fans- two pitchers playing for the same minor-league franchise both almost named "Mike Ehrmentraut." Also, Cody Bellinger retired with 844 home runs, and Gleyber Torres is still going with 818. |

Franco now has 3493 hits for this career, 20 seasons in. At this age, -Pete Rose had 3372 hits -Ty Cobb had 3821 -Ichiro had 3885 (including Japanese leagues) |

2041 recap
Franco's only injury this year was a concussion- but that wasn't about stop #6's quest for the hits record. He batted only .262, but had 124 hits, and advanced to fourth on the all-time list with 3737 (or fifth if you count Ichiro's Japanese league hits). The Rays finished 74-88.

2042 recap
Franco moved to designated hitter, which helped him stay healthier than he had in years. He hit just .259, but had 163 hits to get to an even 3900 for his career. He's still under contract for two more seasons at $24 million per year. The Rays went 72-90.

2043 recap
Franco got 155 hits and is up to 4055 for his career. The ratings are slipping fast so this will be a real battle of attrition. The Rays finished 73-89.

2044 recap
Franco hit just .235 but added 115 more hits to his career total, which is now 4170. The Rays made it to the postseason with an 88-74 record, and Franco acquitted himself well, going 7 for 18, but the team lost in the first round. He's actually a .389 lifetime postseason hitter, with 72 hits in the playoffs.
Franco signed an extension for one more year at $2 million. He's now played for 25 seasons, and he'll be 44 next season. The Indianapolis Tarpons won their first World Series. The American League expanded to add the Oklahoma City Olympians and the San Antonio Trains. |

2046 recap: the end
Franco broke the all-time MLB hits record in May, collecting base hit #4257. He made it into July before tearing his hamstring- his ninth hamstring injury of his career- and ultimately he retired in October rather than come back and try to push past Ichiro's all-time hit record. (I don't quite have the stomach to see him push through more negative-WAR seasons.). He finished his career with 4281 hits.
He finished his career with 499 home runs and a .299 average. In addition to hits, he ended up with the all-time MLB lead in games played, at-bats, runs scored and doubles. Franco was a 13-time All-Star, a seven-time Silver Slugger and a three-time Gold-Glover. His #6 was retired by the Rays. |
