Round 12 Commentary
Ali seems to have done enough to win this fight.
This bout's over, fight fans! The scorecards will tell the tale in this one.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the judges have tallied their scorecards and here is your decision...

Sergio Silvi, Italy has it 116 to 108

Terrance Makaluza, South Africa scores the fight 117 to 108

Horacio Castilla, Colombia scores it 117 to 108

The winner by unanimous decision is Muhammad Ali!

Fight 2 - Tim Witherspoon KO's Trevor Berbick in Round 10

Round 10 Commentary
Watch Witherspoon move. He is darting in and out, in and out, keeping Trevor Berbick off balance.
* That punch caught Berbick clean. He brings his arms up in a defensive posture. Now he pitches forward! Berbick goes down after a delayed reaction to the combination by Witherspoon!
* Keane stops the fight as Berbick goes down for the third time in the 10th round!! Witherspoon is the winner by TKO at the 2:57 mark!!

Pat Harker has the call...

Ladies and Gentlemen! The end comes at the 2:57 mark in Round 10. Your winner by TKO is..

Fight 3 - Tyrell Biggs KO's Carl "The Truth" Williams in Round 2

Round 2 Commentary

Biggs drills Williams with a solid jab. He has him in a world of hurt as He fires away with both hands.
And now it appears as if Williams has been cut by the last punch that landed.
The blood is coming from a wicked looking gash on the right eyelid of Williams and while it's an easy target for his cut man to work on, it's also an easy target for an opponent.
The referee just steps in and stops the action. Smoger is escorting Williams over to the ringside doctor to get an opinion on the severity of the cut.
Referee Smoger is calling a halt to this fight. Williams is bloody mess, the cut over his eye has gotten too bad to allow this fight to continue.

Biggs wins by a TKO!

Fight 4 - Jerry Bivins KO's Cleveland Williams in Round 10

The bell sounds to start Round 10.

Bivins lands a strong uppercut!
That blow connected solidly to the head of Williams and he is stunned!
Bivins gets off a jab to the solar plexus
A beautiful combination to the chin sends Williams to the canvas!
Jen-Kin starts the count...
Williams is desperately trying to stand as the count hits 2 but he is badly hurt.
Williams can't regain his feet! His legs just won't support him. Cleveland Williams rolls over on his back...

Bivins wins by knockout!

Fight 5 - Duane Bobick KO's Deontay Wilder in Round 2

Round 2 Commentary

Bobick is trying to find the range with his punches. He's just missing with some of his shots.
Wilder slides into a neutral corner...
Wilder walks into a glancing hook from Duane Bobick.
Wilder has been knocked down with a strong combination!
The count begins...
At 5, Wilder rolls over and is trying to push himself up but will he have enough strength and time to do it?
He's not going to make it. Wilder gave it a valliant effort but he can't regain his feet and is counted out here in the 2nd round.

Ladies and gentlemen! The victor by knockout at 2:12 of the 2nd round ... Duane Bobick!

Fight 6 - Oscar Bonavena KO's Chuck Wepner in Round 7

Round 7 Commentary

Bonavena lands a wicked cross!
That punch may have stunned Wepner momentarily.
Chuck Wepner is really taking a pounding. This fight can't go on much longer.
Wepner pins Bonavena in the corner!
Wepner fires and misses.
A sizzling cross from Bonavena finds its mark.
Bonavena throws a wild overhand right that lands flush! Wepner drops to one knee and will take the count!
Wepner is out!
And that's it! Wepner can't beat the count. Bonavena wins this fight in dramatic fashion with a stunning knockout!

Ladies and Gentlemen! The time of the stoppage is 2:56 of round number 7. The winner by knockout is ... Oscar Bonavena!

Fight 7 - Riddick Bowe KO's Mike Weaver in Round 8

Round 8 Commentary

Bowe works his way free!
Bowe scores with a tremendous right just above the waistline!
Those punches hurt Weaver and he looks to hang on.
Weaver has Bowe cornered!
Bowe is either lucky or has radar. Weaver's last punch missed landing by a fraction of an inch!
Wow! That shot landed like a lightning bolt! Weaver is down on his back!
Ritter picks up the count from the timekeeper...
Weaver is making a gallant try to get off the canvas as the count reaches 4.
Weaver can't regain his feet! His legs just won't support him. Weaver rolls over on his back... Bowe wins by knockout!

Here's Pat Harker with the call...

Ladies and Gentlemen! The winner by knockout at 1:39 of round 8 ... Riddick Bowe!

Fight 8 - Jersey Joe Walcott KO's Frank Bruno in Round 11

Round 11 Commentary

Bruno tries to double up on the jab but neither hit the mark.
Jersey Joe Walcott lands a vicious hook and down goes Bruno!
Van de Wiele picks up the count from the timekeeper...
Frank Bruno makes it to his feet but his legs look wobbly! He is going to have to call on all his skills to remain in the fight.
Van de Wiele is looking at Bruno closely, and he will allow the fight to continue.
Walcott has Bruno hurt very early in this round; it will be hard for Bruno to weather this storm!
Bruno backs into the far corner.
Bruno walks into a cross and folds like an accordion. He went down section by section.
Van de Wiele stands over Bruno and starts the count...
At 5, Bruno somehow regains his feet as Van de Wiele administers the mandatory standing 8 count.
Bruno does not look like he has fully recovered from the knockdown but he tells the ref that he can still fight. Van de Wiele must agree as he signals for the fight to go on.
Jersey Joe Walcott picks up the pace sensing he can get Bruno out of there!
Bruno is feeling the effects of his trips to the canvas in both this round and the preceding stanza!
Walcott has Bruno trapped!
A beautiful cross to the chin sends Bruno to the canvas!
Van de Wiele stops the fight as Bruno goes down for the third time in the 11th round!! Jersey Joe Walcott is the winner by TKO at the 2:03 mark!!

We go to the ring where Mark Beiro is ready with the call...

Ladies and Gentlemen! The end comes at the 2:03 mark in Round 11. Your winner by TKO is … Jersey Joe Walcott!

Fight 9 - Nikolay Valuev By Unanimous Decision over Joe Bugner

Round 12 Commentary

The crowd comes to its feet as Bugner and Valuev engage in a furious exchange.
Valuev has Bugner in a world of hurt as He fires away with both hands.
Valuev has Bugner cornered!
Valuev lands two hard body shots that made Bugner grunt.
Valuev has Bugner in a world of trouble. Let's see if he can finish him here in the 12th.
Valuev is just missing by a hair with his punches.
Bugner hits the deck after a huge uppercut and he looks hurt.
The count begins...
“One!”
Bugner has been saved by the bell here in the last Round!
The final round concludes and we're going to have to await a decision to find out who won this contest.

Fight 10 - Chris Byrd Versus Mike Tyson Ends in a Technical Draw

Round 2 Commentary

Tyson is holding on to Byrd. He seems to be taking a breather.
Ouch, that's a cut!
A lot of blood is coming from a gash on the left eyelid of Byrd and it certainly appears as if it's going to inhibit his vision.
It's early in the fight and Chris Byrd knows his cut could develop into a real problem in subsequent rounds.
There must have been an accidental head butt during that clinch that caused that cut.

Round 4 Commentary

Tyson throws a flurry of punches; at least two solid shots made it through. Now he moves away.
That punch has reopened a cut on Byrd as once again you can see blood on his face!
Blood is visible once again on the face of Byrd as the gash on his eyelid has reopened. Byrd is blinking furiously, trying to clear his vision.
Byrd's pawing at his eye and there may be some blood trickling into that eye from the cut above it. The referee must have noticed because we have a stop in the action.
They're going to take a close look at the cut!
There doesn't seem to be any doubt that cut was caused by the accidental head butt in Round 2. The referee has stopped the fight and the ring side physician will look at it.
That's going to be it! They're stopping the fight.
We're inside 6 rounds, so we are going to have a Technical Draw!

Fight 11 - George Chuvalo By Unanimous Decision Over Tony Tucker

Round 12 Commentary

Tucker has Chuvalo trapped!
Tucker lands a hard uppercut!
Chuvalo is trying to regroup after that punch...
Chuvalo lands a vicious cross and down goes Tony Tucker!
Florian moves into position over Tucker and begins the count
At 9, Tucker manages to rise from that knockdown as Florian gives him the mandatory standing 8 count.
Tucker is badly stunned and Chuvalo will try to finish him off here in the 12th round!
Tucker moves into a neutral corner.
He is overwhelmed by a barrage of punches! He's down!!!
Florian crouches over Tucker as he starts the count
At 4, Tucker is back up as Florian counts off the mandatory 8.
Florian asks Tucker if he wants to continue... He nods that he can. The Bell Rings.
This bout's over, fight fans! The scorecards will tell the tale in this one.

Fight 12 - Tony Tubbs By Unanimous Decision Over Randall "Tex" Cobb

Round 12 Commentary

Referee Cortez is earning his pay tonight as it seems he is spending half his time separating the fighters.
Tubbs splits Cobb's gloves with an uppercut.
The swelling under Cobb's left eye is growing to a point where the eye could end up shut.
Cortez tries to separate the boxers but Tubbs has a vice-like grip on Cobb.
Cobb lands a jab. He's using it as both an offensive and defensive weapon on occasions.
Cobb connects with a devastating uppercut to the head, he hits like a Mule!
Tubbs seems to have been hurt by that punch but Tubbs probably has done enough to win this fight.
The bell sounds ending the 12th and final round of this fight. To the Scorecards we go …

Fight 13 - Gerrie Coetzee By Unanimous Decision Over James "Quick" Tillis

Round 12 Commentary

There is a lot less action than we anticipated from these two in this round.
There's a straight right by Tillis!
Coetzee looks like he might have been hurt by that punch!
Coetzee catches James Tillis coming in with a sweet uppercut!
Tillis is trying to regroup after that punch...
James Tillis is rebounding from the knockdown he suffered in the last frame.
Oh!!! Coetzee unleashed a crippling right hand to the head!
Tillis is just looking for a place to fall after that shot!
Tillis misses with the jab but scores with the follow up cross.
This fight is as close as it gets, one would be hard pressed to pick the better man at this time.
There's the final bell! This fight's in the hands of the judges now.

Fight 14 - Pinklon Thomas KO's Gerry Cooney in Round 12

Round 12 Commentary

Johnny Lewis knows Thomas lost that last round, but he took the positive approach between rounds.
Thomas scores with a piston-like jab.
Thomas picks off the cross by Gerry Cooney.
Thomas lands a smashing hook!
Cooney is clutching his side!
Thomas's jab is a real weapon as yet another one hits the mark.
Thomas is reaching down deep to try and end this fight now as he knows he has Cooney in trouble!
Thomas landed a sharp combination that rocked Cooney back on his heels!
Cooney was staggered by those punches!
Swelling has erupted under the left eye of Cooney. This is going to be a problem.
Wow! That shot landed like a lightning bolt! Cooney is down on his back!
Santore moves into position over Cooney and begins the count
Cooney is desperately trying to stand as the count hits 6 but he is badly hurt.
At 9, Cooney's legs look bad as he manages to rise from the knockdown.
Thomas lands a crushing cross!
There's a devastating hook to the head! It came out of nowhere and Cooney drops to the canvas!
Santore points Thomas to a neutral corner and begins the count over Cooney...
The count reaches 6 as Cooney is struggling to climb off of the deck.
That’s it, the referee counts out Gerry Cooney here in the 12th. The crowd is going wild after Thomas's spectacular knockout.

Fight 15 - Enrnie Terrell By Unanimous Decision Over Henry Cooper

Round 12 Commentary

A minute wasn't enough to eliminate or even significantly reduce Cooper's swelling.
Terrell connects with a solid uppercut!
Cooper takes a step back, obviously hurt!
Terrell's jab connects to Cooper's head
Cooper wings the right cross and it gets in, though without a lot of steam on it.
Terrell drills Cooper with a solid jab.
Ernie Terrell punishes Cooper with his piston-like jab.
Cooper traps Terrell's gloves under his arms. He won't let go until Lobo breaks it up.
Lobo has to separate the two...
This fight is going to the scorecards as the bell sounds ending Round 12.

Fight 16 - Michael Dokes By Unanimous Decision Over John Tate

Round 12 Commentary

As the bell sounds, it looks as if the scorecards will determine the outcome of this fight.
The swelling on the face of Tate is almost as pronounced as before his corner worked on it.
John Tate takes a hard combination right on the button and he's down!
The count begins...
At 6, Tate gets back on his feet! He must now take the mandatory 8.
The fight will continue as Jen-Kin appears satisfied that Tate is OK.
Dokes won't want to let John Tate off the hook, now that he has him hurt!
Michael Dokes knows that Tate is in a world of hurt. His Killer Instinct has kicked in.
Dokes scores with a cross to the Boiler.
Tate lands a solid hook!
Dokes is reeling ...
It’s obvious that the swelling around Dokes's left eye is rapidly worsening.
This fight is as close as it gets, one would be hard pressed to pick the better man at this time.
The final round concludes and we're going to have to await a decision to find out who won this contest.

Fight 17 - Buster Douglas By Unanimous Decision Over Michael Spinks

Round 12 Commentary

Douglas lands a devastating hook!
Spinks is clutching his side!
Spinks is at a severe disadvantage now that his right eye has swollen to the point of near closure.
Spinks lands a strong uppercut!
Douglas was rattled by that shot and he is hurt!
Douglas lands consecutive uppercuts to Spinks's midsection.
Michael Spinks lands a crushing cross!
That shot has Douglas hurt!
Douglas appears to have this fight under control.
The bell sounds ending the 12th and final round of this fight.

Fight 18 - Jimmy Ellis KO's Leon Spinks in Round 4

Round 4 Commentary

Shouts of encouragement for both fighters can be heard as the bell rings for Round 4.
Leon Spinks just landed a devastating three punch combo!
Ellis was shaken by those blows!
A hard uppercut from Spinks lands flush.
Jimmy Ellis gets in a several shots utilizing his hand speed.
Ellis lands a perfect hook and Spinks slumps to the canvas!
Ramos crouches over Spinks as he starts the count
Spinks tries to clear his head as Ramos reaches the count of 6.
He can't do it! Spinks collapses to the canvas and the fight's over. Spinks suffers a knockout here in round 4.

We go to the ring where Henry Jones is ready with the call...

Ladies and Gentlemen! The time of the stoppage is 1:43 of round number 4. The winner by knockout is ... Jimmy Ellis!

Fight 19 - Alfredo Envagelista KO's Renaldo Snipes In Round 6

Round 6 Commentary

Both fighters look ready to go as Round 6 begins.
Both fighters are unmarked at this stage of the fight.
Evangelista lands a devastating uppercut!
How is Snipes standing after that?
Wow! That shot landed like a lightning bolt! Snipes is down on his back!
Green begins the count over Snipes as Evangelista moves to a neutral corner..
At 5, Snipes's legs look bad as he manages to rise. The referee is finishing the mandatory 8 count.
Green is allowing the fight to continue and the action resumes.
Snipes moves in and takes a crisp, hard jab from Evangelista.
Alfredo Evangelista has Snipes is in a world of hurt as He fires away with both hands.
Evangelista connects with a violent hook!
Evangelista has Snipes in trouble, he is hurt and trying to hang on!!
Snipes is overwhelmed by a barrage of punches! He's down!!!
Green stands over Renaldo Snipes and starts the count...
At 4, Snipes is in bad shape as he tries to regain his feet.
And he's out. Evangelista has starched Snipes here in round 6.

Let's go to Amy Hayes for the call...

Ladies and gentlemen! The end comes at 2:26 of round 6 ... The winner by knockout ... Alfredo Evangelista!
