All Star selection - auto or manual?
Are people generally happy (in OOTP 20) with the AI selecting the All Star lineups? I am setting up a long term game and would like to have my settings good to go from the start. Thanks.

FYI.... we vote in our online leagues and it seems the AI 90% concurs...

I'm generally happy with it myself. I'll disagree here and there, or get offended by the omission of one of my players... but I've seen worse in votes by Online League members. Certainly, nothing that makes me think it couldn't be my own bias getting in the way.
Any error is by far worth the time savings exchange of not having to pick them manually every season.

I'm pretty happy with what the AI does in this regard.
I cast my ballot and try to do so as an informed fan, not too much of a homer. But if one of my players is close to being the best at their position that year, even if they might not be categorically the best, I will vote for them. My Denver Brewers (I know you are familiar with my WPK league) are always #1 in attendance in the league so I figure a little boost for some of my players only makes sense in terms of realism. (With the All-Star game almost upon us, I will be reporting out the All-Star picks tomorrow.) But with my vote just part of the mix, I think the All-Star selections are generally quite good. |

Yeah, I've always thought this was one area of the game that OOTP really excelled in, for lots of versions now. And not just the All-Star team but all of the awards.
Sure, at some point everybody can and will find a pick they disagree with... but even then if you're honest you realize that though you disagree a good argument can be made on that other guy. From Cy Young to ROTY to Gold Gloves, IMO OOTP (all versions I've played) does as well as a real life informed set of sports writers.... maybe even better as there is no bias.

When looking at the HOF you can use AS game selections as pretty good indicators that a player had a great first half of a season.
The AI does a great job with AS game selections and a pretty good job overall. |

I set my schedule to have the all star game with 30 games left in the season. I let the AI make the selections and this way it gives me a snapshot of who hade the beast season at each position.

Over all though, OOTP does an excellent job with Awards and All Star selections. |
