Do you think he has a chance for 4000? Injuries seem to be catching up to Mr. Aaron.

I thought it was a sure thing a few years back, but now I really doubt he reaches 4000. Hank is 37. Over his last 5 seasons he has played in 87, 152,134,72 and 118 games. Barring a career ender he has roughly 5 seasons left, but how many of those he's a everyday player is up in the air. He currently has 542 home runs. Stuff like this is why I love this game.

Well 1971 has come to a close. Guess what folks, both Biloxi and Lake Charles are in the postseason. First time ever for Lake Charles. Third time for Biloxi. The two teams will face off in the wildcard round. Over the course of the season Biloxi won 9 games against Lake Charles, while losing 5. Biloxi's Bobby Doerr had 5 home ruins against the Pirates. Doerr had the best season of his career. The 32 year old hit 41 home runs and drove in 113.
Lake Charles and Biloxi will be playing for the chance to face the Fort Worth Mustangs. Yup, the Mustangs are making their 6th straight trip to the Southern League championship series. They have a chance to win their 4th straight title. George Boomer Scott had an outlier season for the ages. Hitting .352/.435/.566/1.001 29 home runs, 101 RBI. The 23 year old Shreveport Captain won the batting title in his 3rd big league season. |

Thanks for the info on Aaron. I am starting to become more nervous about RD in 19 but I am going to start and slog through... I will ask for input and advice from you and actionjackson.

No problem. I will be of help if I can. I'm taking a wait and see approach when it comes to buying 19. Of course, I said that last year too and ended up buying a week after the release. So, who knows.

Lake Charles made it all the way to the championship series in their first ever trip to the postseason. They fell 4 games to 2, as Fort Worth won their 4th straight Southern League crown..
Pete Alexander is the biggest new arrival. He was drafted number 1 by the Jackson Browns. The Southern League has its first Hall of Famer from the ranks of the position players. Yasiel Puig is in getting 86.6% of the votes. Puig won 6 Silver Slugger awards and one Championship. The title came as a member of the 1959 Jackson Browns. 305/388/507/.895 61.3 WAR. 2398 hits, 414 Doubles, 142 Triples, 298 Home Runs. 18 year career. Noteworthy retirement for you Jay's fans.
George "Liberty" Bell .267/.311/.450/.760 20.1 WAR 1646 Hits, 269 Doubles, 41 Triples, 257 Home Runs and 864 RBI. 16 year career, 7 as a Shreveport Captain, 3 as Birmingham Slammer, 1 with Beaumont, 4 as a Texarkana Grasshopper and 1 with Alexandria. He won one Silver Slugger award and won 3 Southern League rings. 2 with Shreveport, 61 and 62, 1 with Texarkana 1967. |

If the 1972 preseason predictions are to be believed, the might Fort Worth Mustangs are going to take a huge dive. They are slated to finish 9th. Alexandria is picked to finish first 94-60, followed by the Biloxi Cardinals 91-63 and the Beaumont Crush 84-70. Fort Worth's fall probably has a lot to do with Mr. Pete Rose taking his glove and cleats to Baton Rouge.
Willie Horton lasted one season in Birmingham. He is now a Jackson Brown after being traded for Zach Grienke during the offseason. |

So the 1971 MVP was none other than George Boomer Scott. Scott had an incredible season as noted earlier, he won the batting title hitting .352. Now, you're probably saying, Mr.Watts, isn't this the exact thing you've been whining about when perusing OOTP18? Well yes it is. But, no it's not. See with 16 Scott will more than likely revert back to normal after this great season. With 18, he would more than likely have an even better 72 and follow it with another monster season. Greg Luzinski hit .356/.439/.646/1.085 in 1970. He followed that up in 1971 with a .281/.396/.553/.949.

I hope Mr. Horton is renting not buying a home in Jackson, seems to be having trouble staying with one team.

Speaking of Willie, trades and being on the move. Do any of y'all remember back in the day when Willie left the Tigers? He played for the Rangers, Cleveland, Oakland and Toronto from 77-78. He kept his Tigers helmet the whole time and would have it painted to the design of the new team. I remember watching him play against Toronto way back in 77. He was with the Rangers.

Imagine labeling this an outlier season for the ages if you were using OOTP18. Not.

I always liked George Scott. I should not both because he played for the Red Sox (I am a Yankees fan) and because he got the hit that crushed the thin remaining divisional title hopes of one of my favorite teams, the 1974 Yankees, who miraculously led the league with a few days left lost three straight to those evil Baltimore starters Palmer, Cuellar and McNally, and then caught back up to one game behind on the last day of the season. Scott won that game for Milwaukee against the Yankees and we were dead, but the Orioles won anyway later that day, so it did not really matter.
But I still remember where I was - listening to game on the radio in New Jersey in my bedroom. When Scott drove in the winning run I was crushed. But unlike some others who beat us in later years, I couldn't resent him somehow. Not sure why. Who has the all-time HR lead in your league David? Is it Aaron's 400? |
