Advice for setting up interntional free agents in historical mode?

I'm a little unclear right now how the game deals with international players in historical mode. I am in 1968 with the Expos and am unsure how to proceed partly because I am unsure whether players that were signed as international free agents are being counted towards the draft or whether there is a game system in place for me to sign international prospects. I read on another thread that I should leave the international free agency system off in historical because all the international players were already in the database, but I am unsure what this means.

Any help would be really appreciated, and in case it was not already pretty clear, I am not interested in having fictional players in this historical league, I am however more than okay with having things turn out differently and having players produce different outcomes. Thanks for the time!

I'm far from an expert, but if you have Automatically import historical rookies checked, then any rookie, international or otherwise, gets imported into the game each year. If you have amateur draft turned on, they will be dumped into the draft pool. If not, they are assigned to their actual team, I think, or maybe there's another checkbox to do that.

If you turn on international free agents, I believe the game would generate fictional ones, so I don't think you want that.
