Interesting Sim - Baltimore makes playoffs in 2022
The O's were absolute bottom dwellers in terms of wins and payroll for a couple years in a row. They were constant last place finishers in the division finishing with a record of 57-105 in 2020 and 62-100 in 2021 with $64 million payroll both years. In 2022 their payroll dipped to $47 million and I was sure they were going to be noncompetitive and low and beyond they end up winning 93 games and getting the Wild Card game.
Now, for fun I looked at the rest of the divisions payroll for 2022: New York Yankees: $244 million 68-94 record Boston Red Sox: $200 million 84-78 record Tampa Bay Rays: $79 million 97-65 record Toronto Blue Jays: $55 million 74-88 record Baltimore Orioles: $47 million 93-69 record I love seeing the big spending teams take one on the chin and it gives me hope as I keep running long term sims to test out some strategies that I can win in a small market. BTW, I think the real O's would love if Rutschman can come up to the big leagues hitting .285 and hitting 20+ homeruns a year
