Question Left Handed 3rd Baseman?!?

I recently needed to call up a third baseman from AAA. I have two good 3rd base prospects of equal talent, but since my lineup is predominately right-handed, I decided on one guy because he hit left.

When I inserted him into the lineup, it said that he bats right-handed. I did a double-take because I was sure I called up the right guy (no pun intended). As it turns out, I assumed he hit left because I saw an "R L" to the right of his name and assumed the "L" stood for "Bats Left" not "Throws Left".

In any case, I have a left handed 3rd basemen. I know in terms of computers, it doesn't really matter, but it's weird to me because I've never seen one before in real life.

My only question: Is this a bug or am I just lucky?

Tis true that there wasn't a single LH throwing 3rd baseman this year. Your guy must be so good that he can handle it.

In the fictional league I am in (PSBL) I have left handed throwing 3b who won the triple crown and MVP in our first season.

I'm curious - is that the only position he played?

Yes, he played third the entire year, he has C range and a fielding percentage of .961.

Apparently he is capable of playing short as well...D range and a .945 fielding percentage.

So far this year he has made 5 errors in 258 total chances(all at 3rd) for a very respectable fielding percentage of .981

I do not have his last years fielding available (I'm at work )

I have seen this as well, so either Markus always wanted to leave a chance for players to turn into lefthanded third baseman or shortstops... or the game just uses the usual distribution for throwing/batting handedness and then worries about the position.

Shaun Sullivan's PureSim has pretty good left/right distribution, you can see the percent values he uses in the Puresim input file that is in the folder with the game.
