The Rangers begin a six-game home stand with a three-game series against the defending East Champion Detroit Tigers. The Rangers have won four straight. The Tigers have lost five straight and nine of their last ten.

In the top of the first, the Tigers loaded the bases with one out. Freehan lined to short for the second out. Kaline flew to left to retire the side

In the bottom of the third, Nelson scored from second when Freehan made a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Maddox. A walk loaded the bases with one out. Epstein brought a run in with a sacrifice fly. Carty followed with a two-out RBI single. Johnson followed with his own RBI single. None of the Rangers runs were earned.

After three: Texas 4 Detroit 0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sudakis added to the Rangers lead with a two-out RBI double that extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

After six: Texas 5 Detroit 0.

In the top of the seventh, with runners at second and third and one out, Dick Bosman took the mound for the Rangers. Brown scored when Cash grounded to short.

In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Jim Perry took the mound for the Tigers.

The Tigers lost despite getting 11 hits.

Final score: Texas 5 Detroit 1.

Tonight is the second game in the series in Texas between the Rangers and the Detroit Tigers. The Rangers are 6-1 at home this season. The Tigers are 3-7 on the road. The Rangers have won four straight. The Tigers have lost six straight.
