My Clippers had a relatively good April, going 14-12, a slight improvement from last season when we started off 13-13. The biggest surprise so far is our defense which usually starts slow and ends strong (#1 last year). Our ZR is 14.8 while the #2 team is 4.2 and our DefEff is .745 compared to #2 which is .708. Even Bill Terry (at 1B) is one of the top defenders at the moment (his ratings are 38,26,38,38). Obviously that won't last since he sucks defensively (he's my only weak link defensively).

Tell me about it. My power-hitting all-Milwaukee team, the Cream City Crew, was good enough to win 96 and then 103 games and make the WS in Bronze.

We're struggling out of the gate in in Silver. We're 8-18 after the first month.

Heading into May:

The Toms River Little League Champs (Silver .256) are off to a 20-7 start despite two time reigning MVP Larry Dierker pitching to a 6.54 ERA in April. JD Martinez and Socks Seybold both had 8HR months to tie for the league lead and power the offense. The team picked up Blake Treinen near the end of the month, deposing Tom Gordon to a setup role, and further strengthening an already elite bullpen.

The New Jersey No Money (Gold .339 - F2P) salvaged a 14-14 April. The team is struggling as expected, but there's no reason to concern yet. Reliever Will Smith was added via a challenge mode pack, but the team needs further upgrades. Rumor holds that the team is saving money and looking to acquire an outfielder down the road.

The Las Vegas Pack Crackers (Bronze .353 - F2P Packs only) jumped off to an electric 22-5 start. The lower end of the rotation of Moyer, G. Richards, and Gohara have been surprisingly solid, and the team managed to convince Nolan Ryan to join them, giving them a second legitimate ace. Matt Chapman leads the offense in all major categories.

After losing in silver league finals, my Penny Wise was promoted to Gold League. I have added Verlander to my pitching staff too...and now I dominated the gold league, i'm little surprised but hope to win a WS soon with this team.

The Hippos ended the first day at 13-13 but my offense has been extremely slow out of the gate.

Weird stat of the day... After 42 games, my Clippers are 24-18 and have the best starter ERA in the conference and yet we have 0 complete games. For many seasons now, I've had the SP hook set 3 notches to the right towards slow so that's not the problem. As a consequence of this, my bullpen keeps being worn out and a 19 game with no break stretch didn't help. It's weird because all of my SPs have high stamina and while we never had a high percentage of CGs in the past (23 CG last year), at least we completed some games so our bullpen got a break.

The Hoggs don't suck in diamond! At least not yet. They're 24-19, 1 game above Pythag and 1 game back in their division.

We've made only one change so far this season (and that only a few games ago): Carl Furillo at RF. His defense is below par (already -2.0 ZR after 6 games/50.0 innings, with a poor .965 efficiency) but he'll offer more in terms of power and extra bases than Ichiro. Ichiro will play backup OF and come on as defensive sub for Furillo in the late innings.

Still, if Furillo hurts our defense too much we might have to change back.

Our pitching is very middle of the road so far. Starters' ERA 6th, bullpen 4th. Runs against 7th, and defensive efficiency (already low before Furillo) 7th.

My next goal is to upgrade pitching. I saw a Roy Halladay in the AH earlier today and should've grabbed him.

Pack luck is so wacky sometimes. I made a second free-to-play team where I would only open packs and not use the auction house. This team has opened only 17 packs. This is the current roster:

I've never pulled a perfect player on my main team in many more packs.

Heading into June:

The Toms River Little League Champs (Silver .256) struggled in May, going 12-16. Larry Dierker and Sad Sam Jones continue to pitch badly (6.19 and 5.23 ERAs respectively). The team needs them to return to form if they want to continue to hold onto first place. Management is looking to save up for a big splash signing, so there will be no interim replacements - the current squad simply needs to play better.

The New Jersey No Money (Gold .339 - F2P) went 15-12 in May, lead by a 24 game hitting streak by Bret Boone. While not yet ready to contend in Gold, they seem strong enough that they likely won't be relegated this season. The team continues to save up for an outfielder, likely targeting Darin Erstad.

The Las Vegas Pack Crackers (Bronze .353 - F2P Packs only) went an abysmal 9-18 in May. They're still holding onto first place in the AC West, but things aren't looking too good. On the bright side, today is free pack day for them, so there's a possibility of a new strong addition to the roster.

Holy smokes... we're in 1st place.

Training Bautista up at 2B so I can squeeze out some more production. Move Alomar to the bench and he's been an amazing PR late in games. Almost every box score I've checked where we were tied or down late and close he's scored as a PR.

Finally getting the hang of tweaking strategy settings and individual player strategy.

After a 17-11 May where the Hoggs were clearly overachieving, they have been brought back down to earth in June, 4-9 on the 16th. This includes a 7-game skid. We are 1 game above our Pythag - though we jumped as far as 3 games ahead during our May run.

Still, thanks to the relative weakness of our division opponents through the first half, we are somehow holding onto a 1/2 game lead. Despite our rotation struggling (4.22 ERA), it's our bullpen (3.57 ERA) that's blowing most of our games.

I just made a move that's probably not going to aid our efforts long term but will be interesting to watch short term. Picked up 88OVR Bob Feller. Possibly the worst control of any starting pitcher I've seen but ultra stuff and good movement. I'm interested to watch him in the rotation. 1 start so far. He walked 8 in 5 innings, alongside 4 hits, for 3 earned runs. He also struck out 7, and despite facing 26 hitters threw only 107 pitches.

To accommodate him in the rotation I've moved Corbin to the bullpen and given Doolittle a rest in reserves.

Feller's just about to make his 2nd start... It's gonna be a wild party, that's all I know.

What do you mean we are in first. I guess it helps to be 14-3 in June

Down in Bronze .353 the Tucson Sidewinders are having a successful inaugural season, sporting a 45-37 record through July 1st. Sadly I'm 8 games behind first place in my division, so it's quite possible I'm looking at the league's Whale if I make it through the wild card, mostly thanks to an 9-16 April.

Lessons learned: Rookie Sensation Chipper Jones should only bat against RHP. Hack Wilson doesn't like learning new positions. When you decide you'll use Phil Rizzuto at 2nd/3rd because Bud Harrelson has 5 pts more in SS skill, Bud will have 9 errors in the first 30 games of the season.
