What Should I Call My Indianapolis Team?

I am moving the Rays to Indianapolis before the 2018 season. I need ideas for team names. They will play in Lucas Oil stadium or since I dont have that for OOTP a version of Stade Olympic.

Nickname ideas that I have so far are Speed, 500's & Mustangs.

Arrows. What their proposed expansion/relocated team back in the '80's was going to be called. Ah, what might have been...

Indianapolis Racers is also a good one, they had a World Hocky Asossation Team Named that in the 70's and there are plenty of Logo's available that could be revamped with the ice scates turned into race cars or the Hockey sticks turned in to bats

Arrows. That was the name they were going to use for the real MLB team there, stay with it. There are logos available.

Indianapolis ABCs
Indianapolis Clowns
Indianapolis Athletics

These were the names of Indy's Negro League teams. Since Oakland is already the Athletics, that isn't a good choice. However, the other two could work since they have historical significance.

As the area has had many racing names for their teams, like Pacers, Racers, and the Colts, Fever, Ice, there are a couple of defunct teams names that are out there for Indianapolis.

In 1878 season, the Indianapolis Blues played in the National League for that season, finishing fifth of 6 teams. One gentleman had a 1.69 ERA with 5-8 record.

In the 1949-1953 seasons in the NBA, the Indianapolis Olympians had at best a short time in the league, due to two of their players being banned from the NBA for a cheating scandal in college.

The Indiana Speed is a women's football team playing in the Women's Football Alliance. Indy Impalas are a division 1 rugby team of US Rugby.

Other team names in sports history I found were Athletics, Blast, Blaze, Capitals, Capitols, Clowns, Firebirds, Hoosiers (Federal League, American Association, National League), Jets, Twisters to name some of the more recognizable teams in Indianapolis sports history.

Good Luck! Of course IRL Indianapolis would never get a team because Chicago with both their teams, and Cincinnati would object most to a team going there. St. Louis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, and Detroit, would lose some fans as well... though not as much as Chitown and Cincy.

I was thinking that as I do have that uniform that someone made, was it you who made it?

"The Indianapolis Clowns record this year was 50-112" oh the puns that will be made if there name was the Clowns this days. Besides I hate Clowns. "The Indianapolis ABC's misspelled John Smith's name today on his jersey" yeah as bad as Clowns. I do know the historical significance of both but no. thanx though for the ideas.

Indianpolis is 112 miles from Cincinnati. I thought the rule was 90 miles? Plus Indy will be in the AL so as to not take too many fans away from the reds and Indy has little to no affect on either Chicago team especially the Sox. Most people I knew in Indy are Reds, Cubs & Cardinals fans.

It's part of Silvam's set for the Top 10 Cities in each set. IMHO the best set ever made cause it is so versatile. You can almost always find another Logo with the correct colors with a Mascot if you choose not to use the Initialed Logo Silvam made....But either way they are amazing

Thanks for the kind words. I'll have you know that I have the PSD templates for each city jersey (I believe I saved them all). So changing a color combination to match one you might prefer would theoretically take a minute or two

I normally go with Hoosiers for an Indianapolis team for historical reasons. Here's the wiki page on the term if you're interested or don't know what it actually is. Hoosier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
