You can mitigate your need to get lucky somewhat but in a game where RNG is driving most of the actual gameplay there will always be an element of luck involved.

It's always a combination of strategy and luck.

A good strategy puts you in a position to have a bit more of the luck. For what it's worth, the luck can also turn against you real quick. In my case, I started off the season 11-15 in spite of having more runs scored than allowed, and a Pythagorean expected record of 15-11. That's when you have to remind yourself that the odds will eventually even out somehow...

Is luck not where preparedness meets opportunity?

My pitching staff wasn't affected as much since my starters all have high stamina (being historical pitchers), and my strategy is set to a slow hook. I also keep three starters in the bullpen for middle relief work, for just such circumstances.
Yep, when I got a Pounding achievement for winning something like 26-7, the other team used 3 position players to pitch because their bullpen was completely taxed. I have a starter as long relief to prevent this from happening to my team and he has about double the innings as any other relief pitcher.

Best Single Player Scoring

I had Robbie Erlin strikeout 4 batters in one inning for 2,500 pts...was happy as a pig in slop...
That gave me enough to purchase a GOLD pack & got Alex Rodriguez (88) "Historical All-Star" 2005 at 3B, but I DH him mostly bc I have Bobby Bonilla (79) :Historical All-Star 1988 at 3b

Different Leagues

I hope we separated from the GOLDEN TEAMS in other leagues. I have a pretty good team but could no way compete with some I've seen.My 5 best are A-Rod 2005, Bobby Bonilla 1988, Mike Piazza 87, Greg Vaughn 78, Michael Brantley 78

Promotion and relegation should help but it will take longer than we have in beta to see how much it will help.
