Walkers news: May 12 -- Cleveland 7, St. Louis 0

Record: 16-16, 3rd (Tied/w. Springfield), 3 GB Cedar Rapids
Cleveland starting pitcher Yuki Matsui threw 5.2 shutout innings and also hit a three-run home run to help power the Guitar Heros to a 7-0 win over St. Louis at Cleveland Stadium (1970).
Matsui (3-0) allowed three hits while striking out six and walking three in his time on the mound.
His homer came in the fourth inning, off River Walkers starting pitcher Argenis Batista, and made the score 6-0.
It was the second homer of the game for Cleveland.
Austin Wells hit a two-run shot in the third inning off Batista to open the scoring.
Alex Lange got the final out of the sixth inning.
Luke Weaver went the rest of the way to seal the win.

Walkers news: Lodolo placed on IL; Roberts get called to majors

The St. Louis River Walkers have placed left-handed reliever Nick Lodolo on the 10-day injured list because of forearm tendinitis.
Lodolo, 28, was injured in a May 8 game against Dayton.
He has pitched in 1 games this season, going 0-2 with a save. He boasts a 6.60 ERA.
Called up to the majors will be 25-year-old left-hander Justin Roberts who is being called to the big leagues for the first time.
He has pitched in 13 games at AAA Memphis this season, going 3-0 with a save. He has posted an 0.40 ERA.

Walkers news: May 13 -- Cleveland 2, St. Louis 1

Record: 16-17, 5th, 4 GB Cedar Rapids
Matt Olson led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run off Danny Grigg to five Cleveland a 2-1 win over St. Louis at Cleveland Stadium (1980).
The River Walkers had tied it 1-1 in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Edmond Americaan off Guitar Heroes starting pitcher Drake Fellows.
It scored Jean Carmona who had led off the inning with a single.
A sacrifice bunt and wild pitch had moved Carmona to third.
The game's only other run had come in the previous inning when Nelson Velazquez singled off St. Louis starter Adonis Medina and scored when Tanner Kohlhepp doubled.
Fellows allowed just one run on three hits in his five innings.
Four relievers -- James Pazos, Sean Doolittle, Jake Diekman and Adam Wenger -- all worked an inning apiece without allowing a run.
Wenger (2-2) came out of it with the win.

Walkers news: May 14 -- Cleveland 7, St. Louis 6, 11 innings

Record: 16-18, 5th, 4.5 GB Cedar Rapids
Judson Fabian drove in Mac Horvath with the game-winning run with a single in the botttom of the 11th inning to give Cleveland a 7-6 win over St.. Louis at Cleveland Stadium (1980).
The win gave the Guitar Heroes a three-game sweep of their series with the River Walkers.
Horvath had led off the 11th with a single and moved to second when Will Holland laid down a bunt.
Fabian followed with his single to win it.
At one point, St. :Louis owned a 6-2 lead.
But it disappeared in the boitom of the seventh.
Staring pitcher Steven Brault struck out Kyle Schwarber to open the inning but followed that by allowing a pair of singles.
Danny Grigg replaced Brault, only to walk Will Holland to load the bases.
Fabian followed with a single, scoring a run.
Matt Olson then smacked a double scoring three more to tie the game.
Cleveland starting pitcher Jack Leiter allowed two runs on four hits over four innings.
A parade of six relievers followed him to the mound.
Mason Montgomery (1.2 IP), opened the parade.
He was followed by Colton Eastmand (1.0), Luke Weaver (0.1), Jake Diekman (1.0), James Pazos (1.1) and Alex Lange (1.2).
Lange (2-0) came out of it with his second win of the season.

Record: 17-18, 4th, 3.5 GB Cedar Rapids
Rhys Hoskins hit a grand slam off Cedar Rapids relief pitcher Jose Alvarado to highlight five-run seventh inning as St. Louis rallied for an 8-4 win at Shibe Park (1949).
Dominic Smith had drawn a lead-off walk from River Walkers starting pitcher Tanner Bibee in the sixth inning and scored on an Isaiah Byers sacrifice fly to give the Golden Grapplers a 4-3 lead.
But it only lasted for a moment.
Edmond Americaan got things rolling in the St. Louis seventh with a lead-off walk from Trevor Bauer.
After a strikeout, Bo Bichette singled off Evan Palmer to move Americaan to second.
A new reliever. Zach Schellenger, was greeted by a Vidal Brujan single that loaded the bases.
Jose Alvarado was the third Cedar Rapids reliever of the inning and on a 3-2 pitch Hoskins drilled it 377 feet over the tall wall in right fied to put the Walkers up 7-4.
St. Louis wasn't done.
Jared Thomas kept it going with a single.
He would score when Carlos Vidal tripled with two outs off Jose LeClerc.
St. Louis jumped on Cedar Rapids starter Rick Atkinson for three runs in the top of the first.
Jean Carmona, Vidal and Larry Ernesto all had run-scoring single.
By the bottom of the third, the Grapplers had tied it.
Jose Leyva drove in a run with a triple off Walkers starter Tanner Bibee in the second inning and scored on a ground out.
A Je'Von Ward single off Bibee in the third even it at 3-3.
Bibee (2-0) worked six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.
Rookie Justin Roberts made his major league debut with a scoreless seventh.
Derek Gordon took care of the final two innings.

Down 2-1 going into the top of the seventh inning, Fernando Tatis Jr. tied it when he led off with a home run off Golden Grapplers reliever Todd Peterson.
Jared Thomas followed with a double and moved to third when pinch-hitter Edmond Americaan singled.
Peterson retired the next two batters, bringing Hoskins to the plate.
On a 0-1 pitch, Hoskins lined a double into left-center field scoring both runners and putting the Walkers up 4-2.
The River Walkers broke the game open with four runs in the eighth.
Thomas drove in the first two with a homer off Evan Palmer.
Hoskins collected his third RBI of the game when he drew a bases-loaded walk from Trevor Bauer.
Andrew Benintendi made it 8-2 when he scored Vidal Brujan with a sacrifice fly.
Walkers starter Alex Faedo (5-1) took care of the first six innings, allowing two runs on five hits.
Danny Grigg, Williams Jerez and John Curtiss all pitched an inning apiece to close out the win.

Record: 19-18, 4th, 1.5 GB Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Springfield
Down 3-0, St. Louis tied it with three runs in the top of the ninth inning and won it after Rhys Hoskins hit a two-run homer in the 10th to defeat Cedar Rapids 5-3 at Shibe Park (1949).
The win allowed the River Walkers to complete a three-game sweep of the Golden Grapplers.
Carlos Vidal drew a one-out walk from Todd Peterson in the top of the 10th to bring Hoskins to the plate.
Hoskins then smashed a 1-0 pitch 358 feet over the left-field wall for his third game-winning hit in as many games.
Cedar Rapids had used the long ball to go up 3-0.
Jose Leyva hit a two-run homer off Walkers starting pitcher Argenis Batista in the fourth inning to put the Grapplers up 2-0.
Domingo Santana then got to Batista for a solo shot in the seventh.
But Cedar Rapids could not maintain that lead to 27 outs.
Vidal also got things started in the ninth with a lead-off single off reliever Evan Palmer.
A one-out double from Andrew Benintendi landed Vidal on third.
Fernando Tatis Jr. chased Vidal home with St. Louis' first run with a sacrifice fly, also the inning's second out.
But Bauer walked JT Schwartz and pinch-hitter Vidal Brujan tied it with a two-run double.
After a string of bad outings, Batista was much better despite giving up the two homers.
He went seven innings, allowing the three runs on six hits. He struck out seven and walked none.
Tim Hill worked a scoreless eighth inning.
Edwin Diaz (2-1) shouldered both the ninth and 10th to earn the win.

Walkers news: Grigg whining, wants to be dealt

Right-handed relief pitcher Danny Grigg has informed the front office he wants to be traded.
He's had a rough season, sitting at 0-1 with a 4.91 in 16 games with one save, but he's the third-best arm in the bullpen.
He's getting paid well, $4 million for the next two seasons, and won a ring in 2025.
So what does he want?

I might grant him his wish, we'll see how the next few weeks go.

Walkers news: May 18 -- Kansas City 11, St. Louis 6

Record: 19-19, 4th, 2.5 GB Springfield
Kansas City pounded four home runs and jumped out to a 11-4 lead, before holding on to defeat St. Louis 11-6 at Busch Stadium (1997).
The Pit Masters seized control with a five-run third inning, which featured an RBI ground out from Greg Jones and run-scoring single from Blaze Jordan before Danny Cushing hit a three-run homer, to go up 5-0.
Carlos Vidal, who went deep twice, led off the fourth with a homer off Kansas City starter Dominic Pipkin and the Walkers also got an RBI single from JT Schwartz to make it 5-2.
St. Louis then sliced the deficit to 5-4 in the fifth when Vidal hit his second homer of the game.
But Kansas City broke it open again the seventh, this time with a four-run outburst.
Yasmani Grandal got it started with a two-run homer off reliever Tim Hil.
Josh Shuler followed with another two-run shot, this one off Derek Gordon, to make it 9-4.
Shuler would add another two-run homer in the ninth, this one also off Gordon.
Pipkin handled the first 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits.
Kyle Nelson (1.1 IP), Austin Hansen (1.1) and Noah Murdock (0.2) handled the rest of the game.

Kansas City starting pitcher Juan Sandoval lasted just three batters but six relievers combined to shutout St. Louis the rest of the way, as the Pit Masters downed the River Walkers 6-0 at Busch Stadium (1997).
Here is the list of hurlers who followed Sandoval to the mound: Archie Bradley (2.0 IP), David Berg (2.0), Noah Merdock (0.2), Austin Hansen (1.0), Nick Goody (1.1) and Kyle Nelson (0.2).
Bradley (2-0) came out of it with the win.
Ultimately, the Pit Masters got the only run they would need very early in the top of the first inning when after lead-off hitter Greg Jones was hit by a pitch from Walkers starter Steven Brault, he later scored on a Josh Shuler single.
Danny Cushing had moved Jones to second with a sacrifice bunt.
It would not be until the seventh inning before the Masters would score again.
This time they scored five runs.
Manny Machado opened the inning by leading off with a homer off Brault.
Things later got messy against the St. Louis bullpen.
A bases-loaded walk, issued by Justin Roberts, to Danny Cushing scored a run.
Josh Shuler delivered a two-run single.
Kansas City's final run scored on a John Curtiss wild pitch.

Down 1-0,Rhys Hoskins put St. Louis in the lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and the River Walkers added five more runs in the next inning to send them to an 8-2 win over Kansas City at Busch Stadium (1997).
The victory allowed the Walkers to salvage the finale of the three-game series.
Carlos Vidal had drawn a lead-off walk from Pit Masters reliever Nick Goody to open the bottom of the fourth.
Archie Bradley then replaced Goody and the fifth pitch he threw to Hoskins was smacked 414 feet over the wall in left-center to put St. Louis in front.
Kansas City starting pitcher Jo Jo Romero had departed after two innings with a finger blister forcing the Masters to turn to their bullpen early.
Romero is expected to be out for two weeks.
The Walkers bludgeoned the K.C. bullpen in the fifth.
However, it got started when pitcher Tanner Bibee was hit by a Noah Murdock pitch to leadoff the inning.
Bo Bichette followed with a single and Carlos Vidal scored them both with a double.
Johan Camargo drove in the inning's third run with a single off Kyle Nelson.
Jared Thomas plated the final two with a double off Austin Hansen.
Replacing the injured Jimmy Lambert in the St. Louis rotation, Bibee turned in a third straight strong start.
He worked into the seventh inning, allowing two runs on nine hits in 6.2 innings. He struck out eight and walked one.
Rookie Justin Roberts got the final out of the seventh.
Danny Grigg retired six in a row to breeze through the eighth and ninth.

Record: 21-10, 3rd, 1.5 GB Des Moines and Springfield
Tied 2-2, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a one-out home run off Quad City starting pitcher Nick Wood in the bottom of the fourth inning to put St. Louis ahead for good in what-would-be a 3-2 win at Busch Stadium.
An error on third baseman JT Schwartz led to Quad City scoring a run off River Walkers starter Alex Faedo in the top of the first inning.
St. Louis tied it in the bottom half of the first.
Bo Bichette drew a lead-off walk from Wood, and then stole second.
A Rhys Hoskins single moved him to third.
Bichette scored on a wild pitch.
A solo homer from Jared Thomas in the second put St. Louis in front 2-1.
But the Thunder evened it in the fourth when Josh Bell took Faedo deep with one out.
That set the stage for Tatis Jr.'s homer in the fourth which would put the Walkers in front for good.
Faedo (6-1) pitched into the sixth inning before exiting with the bases loaded and two outs.
Tim Hill, however, came on and struck out pinch-hitter Kameron Misner to keep his team in front.
That result meant Faedo would allowed two runs on six hits in 5.2 innings. He struck out eight and walked one.
John Curtiss got the first two outs of the seventh before allowing a pair of hits.
Jake Brentz rescued him by getting Bell to ground out and keep it 3-2.
Brentz would pitch around a lead-off walk in the eighth.
Edwin Diaz set Quad City down in order in the ninth for his sixth save.

Quad City pounded St. Louis starting pitcher Argenis Batistia for six runs over the first two innings and rode that to a 12-4 win at Busch Stadium (1997).
The 2026 season continued to be a rough one for Batista, in this one he allowed the Thunder to score five times in the first inning and once in the second before exiting.
Duke Kinamon opened the game with a single and scored when Carter Kieboom followed with a triple to make it 1-0.
Kieboom scored on a Nick Gonzalez sacrifice fly.
Josh Bell made it 5-0 with a two-out, three-run homer.
Kinamon scored the run which made it 6-0 in the second.
With one out, Batista issued consecutive walks to Kinamon and Kieboom
Kameron Misner scored Kinamon with a single.
Quad City scored six more times over the final seven innings.
Included was a two-run homer from Misner off Justin Roberts in the seventh inning and Bell's second long ball of the game, this one off Williams Jerez, this one a two-run shot in the eighth.
Quad City starter Izzy San Juan worked five innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out six and walked one.
San Juan was was 2 for 2 at the plate with a run scored.
Garrett Williams took came of the sixth through eighth innings.
Arodys Vizcaino allowed two runs in the ninth, but it didn't matter with his team up by 10.

Tied 4-4, St. Louis exploded for six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to carry it to a 10-4 win over Quad City at Busch Stadium (1997).
With the victory, the River Walkers took the final two games of the three-game series.
The Thunder had tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning against Walkers starting pitcher Adonis Medina.
It all happened with two outs, as Duke Kinamon singled and he scored when Carter Kieboom followed with a double.
Larry Ernesto got things rolling in the seventh for the Walkers with a one-out walk from reliever Brenan Hanifee.
Ernesto stole second and scored when pinch-hitter Edmond Americaan singled.
Thad Ward took over the mound duties, and didn't fare well.
He hit Bo Bichette with a pitch and Carlos Vidal followed with a single which scored Americaan.
A two-out walk to Andrew Benintendi then loaded the bases.
Fernando Tatis Jr. then cleared them and nmore with a grand slam.
Medina lasted 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits. He struck out four and walked two.
Tim Hill (2-1) finished the sixth and worked a scoreless seventh.
John Curtiss and Danny Grigg handled the eighth and ninth, respectively.

Walkers news: May 25 -- St. Louis 4, Springfield 3

Record: 23-21, 3rd, 1.5 GB Springfield
Jared Thomas led off the top of the ninth inning with a home run off Springfield reliever Mark McConnell with a home run, snapping a 3-3 tie and helping give St. Louis a 4-3 win at Olympic Stadium (Montreal).
It was a 2-1 count when Thomas drove the ball 399 feet over the right-field wall.
The game was scoreless through seven innings, and the River Walkers didn't get their first hit until the eighth.
By that time, they trailed 3-0.
The Prairie Fighters scored three times against the St. Louis bullpen in the bottom of the seventh.
Wander Samuel Franco got it going with a one-out homer off reliever Derek Gordon.
Eric Hosner later delivered a two-out double off Tim Hill to make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Walkers first hit came when Larry Ernesto led off the inning with a single off reliever Kenley Jansen.
JT Schwartz followed with a two-run homer, making it 3-2.
St. Louis would tie it when Jansen walked Edmond Americaan with one out.
Bo Bichette followed with a single off a new reliever, Francis Martes, moving Americaan to second.
Mark McConnell then took the mound.
He retired Carlos Vidal on a foul ball, but he hit Fernando Tatis Jr. with a pitch to load the bases.
With Andrew Benintendi at the plate, McConnell got called for a balk, allowing Americaan to score the tying run.
Walkers starting pitcher Steven Brault worked six shutout innings. He allowed three hits while striking out three and walking two.
Derek Gordon and Tim Hill combined to pitch the seventh, when Springfield scored its three runs.
Edwin Diaz (3-1) worked a scoreless eighth inning.
The ninth belonged to Jake Brentz, who despite allowing a single and a walk, managed to post his first save.

For the second straight game., the St. Louis River Walkers rallied from a deficit to defeat Springfield 3-2 at Olympic Stadium (Montreal).
The Prairie Fighters went up with a pair of runs of St. Louis starter Tanner Bibee in the fourth inning.
St. Louis sliced the deficit in half in the top of the fifth.
It started when Jared Thomas reached on a two-out error by Springfield first baseman Eric Hosmer.
Thomas scored when Jean Carmona followed with a double off Fighters starter Franklin Perez.
The Walkers grabbed the lead for good in the eighth.
Dinelson Lamet was on the mound for the start of the rally, and he could not find the strike zone.
Edmond Americaan, Bo Bichette and Carlos Vidal all drew walks to load the bases.
He struck out Rhys Hoskins for the first out.
Keegan Thompson took over, and Andrew Benintendi followed with a double to score two and give St. Louis the lead.
Bibee turned in his fourth straight good start, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings.
Williams Jerez worked a scoreless seventh and got the first two outs of the eighth.
Danny Grigg finished the eighth inning.
Edwin Diaz sent the Fighters down in order in the ninth, earning his seventh save.

Walkers news: May 27 -- Springfield 1, St. Louis 0

Record: 24-22, 3rd, 1.5 GB Springfield and Des Moines
Nate Traylor broke open a scoreless game and provided the only run of the game when he homered off St. Louis ace Alex Faedo with one out in the seventh inning to help give Springfield a 1-0 win at Olympic Stadium (Montreal).
The win allowed the Prairie Fighters to salvage the final game of their three-game series with the River Walkers after dropping the first two.
Faedo had taken a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing singles to Odbubel Herrera and Wander Samuel Franco to open that inning.
However, he was able to get out of the frame without allowing a run.
Faedo would not be so fortunate in the seventh, as after getting Riley Greene to fly out Taylor smacked a 0-1 pitched 429 feet over the wall in right-center field to put Springfield on top.
Fighters starting pitcher Thomas Szapucki worked the first five innings without allowing a run. He gave up three hits while striking out five and walking two.
Five relievers followed him to the mound, led by Kenley Jansen who worked a scoreless sixth inning.
Mark McConnell (1-0) took care of the seventh, and would eventually earn the win.

Dinelson Lamet got the first two outs of the eighth. Andrew Miller recorded the third.
Juan Then set the Walkers down in order in the ninth for his eighth save.
