Walkers news: Chung and Gohara return from disabled list

The St. Louis River Walkers have added second baseman Ji-hwan Chang and Luis Gohara to their roster after both spent time on the disabiled list.
A off-season signing out of South Korea, Chang was just starting to establish himself in the MBL when he suffered a separated shoulder on July 24.
For the season, Chang is hitting just .235 with eight homers and 39 RBIs, but owns an on-base percentage of .388.
Gohara has spent 10 days on the disabled list since August 27 with a mild hamstring sprain and will replace Manuel Soilman in the No. 5 spot in the rotation.
In five starts with St. Louis this season, Gohara is 1-2 with a 4.39 ERA.

Walkers news: Sept. 10 -- St. Louis 6, Quad City 4, Game 1

It was by no means a textbook victory, but the St. Louis River Walkers managed to squeak out a 6-4 win over the Quad City Thunder at Busch Stadium.
At one point, St. Louis led 5-1 and later 6-2 but then had to hold on late as the inability of its pitchers to consistently throw strikes -- Walkers pitchers walked seven and hit three batters -- assured the Thunder would remain in it.
Rhys Hoskins had an RBI single off Mike Hausman in the bottom of the fifth inning and Nicky Delmonico drew a bases-loaded walk to put St. Louis up 5-1.
An RBI double by Andrew Beninteni off Ryan Butcher in the sixth later made it 6-2, after Hanley Ramirez had scored the Thunder on a sacrifice fly in the top of the inning.
St. Louis starter Trevor Bauer after failing to retire a batter in the sixth inning. He had struck out six during his time on the mound, but had issued five walks and hit a batter.
Chaz Roe and Jake Diekman managed to get the Walkers through the seventh and eighth innings without allowing a run.
Phil Maton was charged with handling the ninth.

He allowed a lead-off single to Orlando Arcia and two batters later a home run to Will Myers, making it 6-4.

But he sucked it up to get the next two batters, sealing the victory for St. Louis.

Walkers news: Sept. 10 -- Quad City 6, St. Louis 5, Game 2

Hanley Ramirez snapped a 4-4 tie with a two-run home run off Kyle Hendricks in the top of the fifth inning and the Quad City Thunder held on for a 6-4 win over the St. Louis River Walkers in the second game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium.
Down 2-0 after Wil Myers homered off Hendricks in the top of the first, St. Louis actually rallied to take a 4-2 lead.
Rhys Hoskins knocked a two-run double off Quad City starting pitcher Justus Sheffield in the bottom of the first. Carlos Asuaje had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the same inning.
Jedd Gyorko's RBI double in the second put the Walkers up 4-2.
But the Thunder stormed back to tie it just a half-inning later.
Orlando Arcia plated both runs with a double.
Sheffield was not at the top of his game lasting just four innings during which St. Louis would score all of its runs.
Four relievers (Travis Lakins (1.0 IP), Corey Taylor (2.0), Jimmy Herget (1.0) and Craig Kimbrel), however, combined to shut out the Walkers the rest of the way.
Taylor handed the sixth to earn the win. Kimbrel collected his 27th save of the season.

Walkers news: Sept. 11 -- St. Louis 10, Quad City 1

St. Louis cranked five home runs and got a strong mound effort from Carlos Martinez to propel the River Walkers to a 10-1 win over Quad City at Busch Stadium.
Rhys Hoskins homered twice, and Andrew Benintendi, Nicky Delmonico and Endre Inciarte all went deep once in the victory.

The Walkers took the lead in the bottom of the first without the benefit of the long ball, as Benintendi tripled with two outs and scored on a wild pitch by Q-C starting pitcher Josh Tomlin.
Martinez scored Hoskins with a bases-loaded sacrifice bunt in the second inning, to up the edge to 2-0.
Benintendi opened the home-run onslaught when he greeted Tomlin with a homer to lead off the third inning.
Martinez pitched into the seventh inning, before exiting. He allowed one run on five hits in 6.1 innings. He struck out eight and walked three.
Justin Turner provided the Thunder its lone run with a homer in the fourth inning.
John Curtiss finished the game off, handling the final seven outs of the game.

Walkers news: Sept. 13 -- Madison 5, St. Louis 3, 10 innings

Madison hit three home runs over the ninth and 10th inning to rally for a 5-3 win over St. Louis at Busch Stadium.
Down 2-1, Brandon Drury evened it in the top of the ninth inning with a one-out home run off Chaz Roe.
A mid-season All-Star, Roe has struggled in recent weeks (and came into the game with a cold status) and when asked to get the final two outs, allowed a homer to the first batter he faced.
In the 10th, Adam Climber took the mound for the Walkers and was greeted by a lead-off homer from Chad Pinder.

He retired the next two batters but Francisco Lindor singled to keep the inning going.
Left-hander Jerry Blevins was than brought on to face left-handed hitter Nomar Mazara, who hit a 405-foot blast into the right-field seats.
The loss wasted a strong start for St. Louis starting pitcher Luis Gohara, who alllowed one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out two and walked two.
Aaron Siegers handled the first four innings for Madison, allowing two of St. Louis runs.
Four relievers (Cody Reed (2.0 IP), Nick Vincent (1.0), Aaron Barrett (1.0) and Juan Minaya (1.0)) held St. Louis scoreless through the ninth inning.
Zach Littell did allow a solo homer to Michael Conforto in the 10th, but it wasn't enough as he posted his first win of the season.

Walkers news: Sept. 14 -- Madison 2, St. Louis 1

Francisco Lindor's ninth-inning sacrifice fly off St. Louis' Andrew Miller scored Brett Gardner from third base and gave the Madison Muskies a 3-2 win over the River Walkers at Busch Stadium.

Walkers news: Sept. 14 -- Madison 6, St. Louis 3

St. Louis entered the top of the ninth inning leading 3-1, but it would not end that way as a bullpen meltdown led to six runs scored by the Madison Muskies who claimed a 6-3 win and completed a sweep of their three-game series at Busch Stadium.
With the sweep, the NL North Division leading Muskies pulled to within a game of the River Walkers for best record in the National League.
The loss also means that St.Louis' lead in the NL South is down to 4.5 games over Des Moines with 14 games remaining.
Brad Boxberger was the first St. Louis reliever to get bounced around in the ninth.

He retired two of the first three batters he faced before falling apart.
The big one was a two-run double from Chase Headley which tied it at 3.
Jake Diekman, who came into the inning slightly fatigued but the entire bullpen was tired outside of Chaz Roe who has not been able to get anyone out for three weeks, allowed a single to Brandon Nimmo before hitting both Francisco Lindor and Nomar Mazara and then walking Matt Olson to score another run.
Out of options, Chaz Roe was given a chance and did just what I expected.
He walked Nick Senzel to score another run.
The late game meltdown spoiled a strong outing from Trevor Bauer.
He went six innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out four and walked two.
Madison starter D.J. Mitchell lasted just four innings, giving up two runs on three hits.
But once again, Madison got a strong showing from its bullpen with -- Caleb Smith (2.0 IP), Justin Wilson (1.0), Jared Miller (0.1) Drew Steckenrider (0.2) and Zach Littell (1.0) -- combining to limit the Walkers to a single run the rest of the way.
Littell earned his second save of the season in as many games.
