Ernest Gatewood

Ernest Gatewood spent most of his time in the Negro Leagues as a catcher, but played a little first base as well. His time span was 1914 through 1927. The majority of his career was spent with the Bacharach Giants and Brooklyn Royal Giants. He appears with the latter team in this photo from the Seamheads.com website.

Roy Williams

This Roy Williams (no known middle name) was a third baseman and outfielder who played from 1952 through 1955 with the Chicago American Giants and Birmingham Black Barons. In 1952, he won the Negro American League batting championship with a .347 average for the Chicago American Giants. He is shown here with that team in a photo from a game advertisement from the Kokomo (IN) Tribune of August 5, 1952.

"Subby" Byas played mostly catcher for the Chicago American Giants during his Negro League career, but he also played a few games in the infield for the Memphis Red Sox and the Cleveland Cubs. This pitcher was called Nathaniel "Jess" Houston IN THE NEGRO LEAGUES BOOK, by Dick Clark and Larry Lester, but he's currently called Jesse H. Houston by Seamheads.com. He was in the Negro Leagues from 1936 through 1941, hurling for the Cincinnati Tigers, Chicago American Giants, and Homestead Grays.
