As you know I love good graphics.
Adding items like this to your dynasty reports would really get people like me... items like this will take us back to another day and time... it will bring your dynasty league to life.. I'm really looking forward to your Andros Island story with much excitement. |

For use in the future if you like it.
Would you believe it came to me in a dream? Wymsey Grove Greens. Picture a small town surrounded by trees with a base ball diamond in the middle of the grove... the team would be named for the color of the lush trees and lush grass on the diamond in the town park. The base ball (two words as it was originally spelled) diamond is the village green. |

You're welcome (de nada), Sizeman. Perhaps you can use my suggestions later, if and when you create another affiliated minor league, somewhere, in this land. CD out.

Hi guys, today I am thinking of writing some back story for this island and need some ideas.
I always try to start off by thinking of the five W's (who settled the island, what is on the island, when did this happen, where is this taking place, why is this all happening) after that, think of the indigenous Andros people, what did they do before and after the European settlers came. Who did they talk to outside of the island? Any trade partners or were they isolated like the Hawaiian islands? Then think of the geography of the island. You know a few of the native species of animals found on the island and in the sea around. What about local fauna, flowers or other animals found on the island. Do the Andro people worship any animal like a deity of use any for sacrifices? Any volcanoes or massive waterfalls? Old ceremonial pyramids or long ravines? What are the beaches like? White sand or volcanic rock? Why would I want to be a tourist here? What do the Andros people use for currency? Were the Andros civilized enough to forge coins or were they more primitive and used things like teeth and bones? What was technology like, if there was any? What do Andros people think of outsiders? What is a average day like for a male and female Andro? What do the Andros people do in their free time? What is the rite of passage age to becoming a man/women? Did the English, and then the Spanish take kindly to the native Andro people or was there bad blood that got better over time? Do the Andros people have their own language? Can a non Andro pick it up easily? And then, we have to talk about the big thing, baseball! My first idea was that the English traded bats and balls for food in the beginning, but you might have a different idea of the origins of the sport on the island. What is baseball like today (1896) is the league filled with big hitters and power pitchers or is the game all about speed on the base path? What are the fans like? Loud and wild or tame? Do the Andro people get to play alongside the English and Spanish? Did the English and Spanish bring football over to the island as well? How well received was baseball to other sports if there were others? I'd like ideas to stay consistent with the time period of the 1890-1900s time era. Use your imagination! I will provide a blank map of the Andros Islands for reference. Have fun with this!

Sizeman21, you don't need my help... you already have it all thought out to the nth degree... you covered all possibilities that are possible and ever will be possible.
My dynasty league are much simpler. I have never gone into as much details as you posted. I create a rudimentary and basic map... I do a quick history of the country... basically beginning with the settlement... then I go to the baseball league and how it came about... all in general terms, not a lot of details.... it's the baseball league I concentrate on... but it doesn't have to be that way... you could create a world like you described in your plans. If you include all of the things you mentioned, you will have one of the greatest dynasty leagues ever. Good Luck. Whatever you do, just do the stuff you enjoy... that is the only thing that matters... that you enjoy doing it. And don't worry about how many people follow it... don't worry about how many people comment in your dynasty thread... my experience is that they don't get very involved... they just read it and and that's it.... I have been doing it for over 15 years... people look at it in good numbers, but they don't give me any feedback. Hope you have a great following and lots of comments and people posting. Go to it! And most of all, have a good time. Last edited by Eugene Church; 04-15-2020 at 03:13 PM. |

History idea for Andros: loosely base it on the conflict between the British Crown and the Crown of Castille y Leon during the 1500s. Mirror Spain's quest for gold. You can tie in the history of privateering/piracy (privateers were licensed by the British Crown to raid Spanish galleons; piracy grew from the outlawing of the practice). The Spanish exploited the native Andros people, which the British used to recruit them in their battles with Spain over control of the island. After decades of fighting lead to a stalemate, both sides agreed to split the island.

Cuz I'm doing my own sorta project (sans sports atm) I have a few more ideas...
-Andros natives have an economy based on trade between villages (furs, food, materials) & have a hunter/gatherer society -baseball, like in America, evolved from the English game rounders -baseball of the late 1800s was the deadball era Alotta small ball (high numbers of hits, 2B, 3B, SB) Pitchers racked up IP and Ks as well as W/L
