Service time manipulation
So how many of you actively manipulate service time when bringing up super-prospects ala Kris Bryant from a few years ago and Ronald Acuna this year. I’m playing with the Rangers and send Calhoun down for the first month of the season.
In previous versions I’ve not paid much attention to it, but given my low expectations for the Rangers this year, I’m making sure I get an extra year of team control over Calhoun. How do others handle this? |

I always start a new league the same way... I'll sim some number of years (to generate a history) and then when I'm ready to take over a team I will stop the sims at the end of the last 5 seasons and write down the team with the lowest budget that year (lowest BUDGET, not payroll). Then when those last 5 years are done, I will "draw" one of those teams randomly. So this means I'm always dealing with tight budgets (which is what I want) but it also means I tend to.... use the existing rules to maximize my return on investment... that sounded better!

if they arent ready day one, they continue to simmer. if they are well-rated opening day, they are on the roster.
mlb>mil development. i'm not worried about partial year difference.. plust all the headaches it causes of switchign stuff around and potentially trying to trade midseason, which is a difficult time due to budget constraints of a large portion of teams. it's not all gravy is all that i mean, even if it is a net positive or not. there are opportunity costs and ramifications. context is everything. too many to account for with a few sentences. |
