2042 IPA PRO CUP FINALS - Game One at Colfax

WILKERSON'S 3-RUN HR WHIPS COLFAX 5-3
Playing out-of-town in Colfax, the South Fork Stallions took a page out of the Blasters' playbook... Jess Wilkerson walloped a three-run homer in the top of the eighth to give the Stallions a 5-3 triumph in the opening game of the 2042 IPA Pro Cup Finals... all three runs were unearned... 25-game winner Jay Murphy (4-3/3.93) worked seven innings for the win though he allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks... Gary Golden (0-0/0.00) pitched a perfect two innings for his fourth save in the postseason.

Nilos Andris (3-1/2.45) tasted defeat for the first time in the playoffs, but he only permitted two earned runs... in all, South Fork pelted him for five runs on 11 hits... Andris walked five and struck out five... both clubs scored two runs in the opening inning... Colfax took the lead on SS Mickey Eldridge's (.238) solo shot in the fifth, but Andris couldn't make the 3-2 lead stand up... Wilkerson (.373) socked three hits in five tries and CF Scotty O'Sullivan (.296) went 2-for-5 with an RBI... and 2B Pete Arnold (.250) scored twice for the Stallions... Wilkerson now has three homers in the postseason with 10 RBIs... LF Chet Penn (.306) and 3B Kristian McEly (.235) each drove in a run for the Blasters... Penn is tops for Colfax with 13 RBIs in the postseason.

2042 IPA PRO CUP FINALS - Game Two at Colfax

SORENSEN SHACKLES COLFAX 5-3, SF UP BY 2
For the second straight day South Fork held the Colfax attack in check with a 5-3 victory... portsider Chris Sorensen (4-1/3.00) came through for the Stallions and put them up two games to none in the IPA Pro Cup Finals... Sorensen was tagged for nine hits, but only two earned runs... he fanned six batters and walked two in a complete game... Sorensen (.200) also doubled in a pair of runs.

South Fork collected 11 hits with RF Rick Carlton (.276) and LF Kyle Gottwald (.429) getting three hits each... the Stallions scored all their runs in the first five frames, running up a 5-0 margin... SS Jess Wilkerson (.365), 3B Elton Jacoby (.246) and C Paul Richardson (.269) drove in the other runs... Wilkerson got his with his fourth homer... LF Chet Penn (.314) popped a two-run shot to lead the Blasters... it was his fourth of the playoffs... Bobby Porter (2-2/5.40) suffered the loss... South Fork got five runs and 10 hits off of him in eight innings, but only three were earned... Colfax defense has hurt them in both losses.

Colfax will try to get back into the series, but they will have to do it in the unfriendly confines of Jock Ewing Stadium in South Fork, the site of the next three games.

2042 IPA PRO CUP FINALS - Game Three at South Fork

STALLIONS STOMP BLASTERS 9-2, NEAR SWEEP
South Fork stood tall in the saddle again by stomping Colfax 9-2 for their third consecutive win in the Pro Cup Series... one more Stallion victory and the Pro Cup will be all theirs... 6' 6" Big Murph McAlister (1-2/4.41) put down the big bats of the Blasters for the third day in a row, holding them to just one run on five hits in his eight innings, while the Stallions were cracking 13 hits... red-hot Jess Wilkerson and Rick Carlton both delivered roundtrippers.

SS Wilkerson (.379) went 2-3 with a double and a homer and four RBIs... he leads the Pro Cup playoffs with five homers and 15 runs batted in... 3B Elton Jacoby (.277) rapped three hits, scored three times and had an RBI... 1B Paul Sexton (.317) smacked three hits as well... Carlton's (.274) homer was his second... it was a tight game for five innings as South Fork led with a run in the fourth, but then broke it wide open with five big ones in the sixth off losing pitcher Ron Paige (1-1/4.68).

Wow! I thought that they would win, but I didn't expect them to be up 3-0. Hoping that Murphy can deliver the sweep.

2042 IPA PRO CUP FINALS - Game Four at South Fork

SOUTH FORK SWEEPS PRO CUP
For the second time in its history South Fork is the best team in the Islands. This time around it was much easier than in 2025 when the Stallions had to come back from a 3-2 deficit before subduing Middlefield in a frantic, seven-game clash. 17 years later South Fork won in a breeze, sweeping favored Colfax in four games for the IPA Pro Cup trophy. The Stallions entered the playoffs as the number seven choice. The Blasters were the fourth-ranked club in The Islandian Times Pro Cup poll. Southport, Kenwood and Hartsdale of the Tycobbian Union were rated numbers 1, 2 and 3.

The Stallions wrapped up the title with an 8-3 decision at home at Jock Ewing Stadium. They snapped a 3-3 tie with a five-run outburst in the sixth off losing pitcher Nilos Andris, who forced in the winning run when he walked pinchhitter R. J. Aldridge with the bases loaded... Pete Arnold and Jess Wilkerson followed with two-run singles to pad the lead... Jay Murphy (5-3/3.98) had just enough for the win as he allowed three runs on six hits in six innings... Mike Lambertini (0-0/1.86) was outstanding coming in from the bullpen... Lambertini retired all nine batters he face to get his second save in the postseason... Andris (3-2/3.18) was ineffective as the Stallions popped him for eight runs and eight hits in five and a third innings.

At the plate it was SS Jess Wilkerson (.400), 2B Pete Arnold ((.257) and C Paul Richardson (.271), who led the South Fork charge... Wilkerson had three hits, including a homer that tied the game in the fifth, plus he drove in three runs... Wilkerson hit .400 and totaled six homers and 18 RBIs in a sensational postseason performance... in game four Arnold had a pair of hits and two RBIs... and Richardson had a two-run blast in the second, which gave the Stallions a short-lived 2-0 lead... the Blasters shot ahead in the top of the third on a two-run double by CF Geno Calabrese (.270) and an RBI single by 3B Kristian McEly (.222).

Winning manager Blackie Terramova told reporters, "The key factor was our hitting and our relievers... everybody in the batting order did their part with Wilkerson especially standing out... in the bullpen it was Golden with four saves... unbelievably he retired all 15 batters he faced in the playoffs... and Lambertini got two saves for us... Mike especially came through in game seven.

During the playoffs South Fork batted .269 with 32 doubles, 5 triples and 15 homers... they outscored the opposition 85 to 64 in 18 games with a 12-6 record... The team ERA was 3.40... the bullpen ERA was a sparkling 1.16 with six saves... defensively the Stallions played great as they surrendered only four unearned runs.

Colfax manager Ilya Szabo congratulated Terranova and his Stallions, "South Fork really put a whupping on us... congrats to them... they really outhit us, outpitched us, outplayed us defensively and probably outmanaged us... the decisive sweep says it all."

Congratulations to South Fork! Pretty impressive series for them in an unexpected sweep. That's why they play the games on the field and not on paper.

You called it right... I missed it.
Shame on me... I had access to much more info than you and didn't call it right.

Starters Chris Sorensen and Big Murph McAlister, along with much better defense made the difference.

I thought Jay Murphy would have to win three games in the Finals for South Fork to prevail. I knew Sorensen was a solid pitcher, but I didn't have any faith in McAlister. He proved me wrong with a fine outing in game three, winning 9-2.

No, that was luck. I think I was thinking similar to you, Jay Murphy would need three big games for them to win, with someone else winning the other. Murphy certainly seemed capable of doing that based on his regular season.

BEST ROOKIES CHOSEN BY IPA
Picking were very sparse this season all across the Islandian Pro Alliance. There wasn't much of a rookie crop except for a couple of pitchers and a few batters. St. John's super newcomer Frank Long was chosen the Ruthlandian Rookie of the Year and San Alejo's splendid southpaw Will McKinney garnered the Tycobbian best freshman honor.

Ruthlandian Union Rookie of the Year Award:
1. Frank Long (St. John) (19-15/2.89)
the 22-year-old right-hander had a hand in the Crusaders' winning the RU South Division flag... he had 23 complete games, four shutouts and struck out 243 batters in 301 innings... Long easily won the award, far outdistancing his peers.

2. Troy McFarland (Eastshore): .269 BA, 22 HR, 80 RBI, 80 runs, 17 SB
RF McFarland was one of the few bright spots for the last place Elegants.

3. Mike Matthews (Beechwood): .247 BA, 12 HR, 51 RBI, 87 runs, 28 SB
Matthews is fleet of foot and handles the glove very well.

Tycobbian Union Rookie of the Year Award:
1. Will McKinney (San Alejo): (24-10/2.63)
no contest in this league either as McKinney won all the first place votes with a super season... McKinney was a vital part of the Montaneros' second-place finish in the TU South race... this 100-mph left-hander led the IPA with 290 Ks in 314 innings, had 18 complete games and four shutouts.

2. Aldon Belew (Kenwood): .294 BA, 6 HR, 72 RBI, 65 runs
the first sacker played a role in the Wildcats winning their second TU West this year.

3. Ace Diamond (Colchester): .228 BA, 34 HR, 95 RBI, 69 runs
He didn't hit much for average, but first baseman Diamond produced quite a bit of offense with 34 homers and 95 RBIs to spark the Elites to a break-even season in the TU South... they came in seventh in the standings, but had a 77-77 record.

IPA MVP AWARDS GO TO INKAMARA AND VAN DALEN
The IPA Golden Bat winners Nioka Inkamara of Wynnamac and Rikky Van Dalen of Cape Coral became double winners this year by also hauling in the much-coveted Most Valuable Player honors. The Ruthlandian Union also made Inkamara the league's MVP and the Tycobbian Union did likewise to Van Dalen. This was the first time the two very talented players were honored as MVPs.

Ruthlandian Union Most Valuable Player Award:

2. Nicky Farrugia (St. John): .338 BA, 35 HR, 102 RBI, 104 runs
the talented outfielder was a vital cog in St. John taking the RU South Division title... without his offensive output they wouldn't have won it... in his nine-year career Farrugia is sporting a tremendous .327 BA, which is currently ranked 10th best all-time in the IPA.

3. Bobby Gamble (Sugar Valley): .312 BA, 28 HR, 112 RBI, 120 runs, 26 SB
Gamble is the "Mr. Everything" in Rattler history with a .316 lifetime BA in 10 seasons, 4 Golden Bats and 2 MVPs... also a Golden Glover... the gifted outfielder was an important ingredient in Sugar Valley's third-place finish in the RU East... he came in third in the IPA in scoring runs with 120 this season... was tied for second with 39 doubles.

Tycobbia Union Most Valuable Player Award:
1. Rikky Van Dalen (Cape Coral): .371 BA, 31 HR, 123 RBI, 125 runs, 19 SB
It was a marvelous year for Van Dalen... he topped the IPA with a .371 BA, was a co-leader with 222 hits and led in runs scored with 125... and his Hurricanes came in third in the TU South... Van Dalen has hit a healthy .310 in his seven-season career.

2. Billy Hoover (Southport): (26-11/2.16)
He led the Sun Sox to their first pennant in 15 years... his 26 wins led the IPA... Hoover was fourth in the IPA with a 2.16 ERA... he also led the IPA with 8 shutouts and 30 complete games... at age 27 Hoover has been in the league for four years and has a 73-57 mark with a fine 2.94 ERA... this was his first 20-game season.

3. Jay Murphy (South Fork): (25-7/1.90)
Murphy was a vital link in the Stallions' second consecutive Tycobbian East title... he was tied for second in the IPA in victories with 25... led the IPA with a remarkable 1.90 ERA and Murphy was given the Golden Arm Award for his mound accomplishments, but he lost a close race to Van Dalen and Hoover for the prestigious MVP award.

Tycobbian Union Manager of the Year:
1. Charley Oscar (Southport):
the Sun Sox picked up its first TU South pennant since 2028... they rose up from 67-87 and seventh place (30 GB) to the top spot with a 100-54 record, the best in the IPA this season... they were favored to win the Pro Cup this year, but were eliminated in the first round by Hartsdale.

2. Jud Turchin (Hartsdale):
the Hellcats were vastly better this year... they were sixth and 17 GB in 2041 with a 78-76 record... in 2042 they were a sparkling 92-62 and upset perennial powerhouse North Hills in the TU North, thus snapping the Hawks' eight-season domination of the division... Hartsdale last won the pennant in 2029.

3. Jack Elliott (High Mesa):
the greatest player in IPA history is now making a name for himself as a novice manager... his Cowboys jumped from 71-83 and sixth place (16 GB) to a very close runner-up spot in the TU East... they wound up 84-70 and were beaten out by Kenwood by just a game.

4. Aaron Hankins (Kenwood)
Hankins kept his Wildcat on top in the TU West for the second year in a row... they improved from 90-65 to 94-60 this season... just barely beating out High Mesa by one game.
