Why I will be CHEATING in the Draft this year
My kids go to a school St. James Academy. The other big Catholic school here is Aquinas. They have a kid, Riley Pint, who is a stud. He has a real shot (as much as any HS kid does). My kids have played against him in HS (and before). Dude is sick. One of my boys claim to fame is "I smoked him one day." Hilarious.
Anyway, I'm gonna have to cheat, but he will be on my OOTP team!!! |

That's not cheating, it's mandatory.
BTW his name is great. "I'll have a Pint of Riley" in an Irish accent rolls off the tongue.

sounds like he will be one of the first highschool arms off the board. if im the Phillies I go for Groome. he's a local kid in a draft that lacks a true number one and has upside higher than everyone and try and hit a HR and hope he becomes that frontline lefty starter, those kinda guys don't come along too often.

it's easy to dominate high schoolers. had a kid in my H.S. back in the day... set state record for HR, threw no-hitters/1-hitters nearly every game. cold weather state, so competition was not as good as the south or out west, but the schoold was 2400kids, and played against other large schoolds.
he never made it. a few stints in the bigs, but just didn't pan out. the better athletes always look like phenoms in HS. the difference between that guy and someone tha tmakes the majors is very slim. he was still a phenomenal athlete, just not good enough for the MLB. |

There have been 3 players from my high school who made it to the minors but only one player nearly broke into the bigs. The thing that prevented that player from breaking through was the rangers acquiring a power hitting outfielder.

that's really cool. I thought about creating players based on people I know and throwing them in the game. Might be funny to see how things turn out for them.

I attended and played ball for the same school as Goose Gossage, though I did so some thirty years later. Nevertheless, he showed up to practice when I was a sophomore or junior and even tossed some bp.
I smoked him. |

I've played a bunch of games so far and I haven't seen him turn out to be a star, but he's always a coveted prospect

I totally understand. I am a high school teacher and junior high baseball coach and every time a player I taught, coached, or coached against makes this game I find a way to get them.
There have been four thus far. |

His changeup usually never develops for me. He always becomes a reliever eventually.

I did the same with Braxton Garrett. He is in my high school area. I've played against him multiple times. Always cool to draft a "hometown hero"

The guys on BA's podcast said "if you told me that one player from this draft class reached the HoF, it'd be Riley Pint". They think he's riskier than several others (HS arms are), but if all reach their ceiling, they think his is the highest.

I like the ratings. That screenshot may have just convinced me to change from 20-80 to 1-100.

We had a kid from my HS make it to the big leagues. Lefty with filthy stuff. Injuries got to him. I faced him one time. I stood no chance at all.

there're reasons for and against it... i do use a 1-100, for what it's worth. as long as you have some innaccuracy in your scouting it's nothign too advantageous - unless compared to 1-5 and 1-10 scales. 100% scouting would add to that effect of "possibly too helpful." Yeah, I use 1-100 and "normal" scouting...
Riley's also like 6'5" now, I think....I don't think that impacts OOTP but he is up to consistent 95 + Last edited by Airdrop01; 05-18-2016 at 04:02 PM. |

Have you checked out his memorabilia in his basement though?
