I have tried FM, but feel like it depends way to much on the in game strategy, which I am just not the best at. OOTP has a much greater window to just be a GM.

looking forward to the demo version so I can get my feet wet in it. Then decide to buy it or not. I know nearly nothing about the sport but could learn plenty

Right so we should have a "both" option.

Basketball fan here. Used to be a huge baseball nut as a kid. Could tell you all the players and who they played for. That eventually fizzled out, somewhere around the "more than normal HomeRuns" Era. I continued liking basketball and football, but I'd say the last 5 years I've stopped liking football and I gave up watching sports or cheering for teams. I still love the game of basketball though, and I play the FastBreak series. It's not of OOTP quality, but it does just enough stuff, does it well and it most importantly has the customization flexibility that OOTP does. It works for me. Draft Day Sports series are very in-depth, but they just dont do for me what I want in a sandbox basketball-sim (aka limited customization & mostly focused on replicating real-life leagues).
Anyways...I stumbled upon the OOTP series and was immediately impressed with how much stuff you could set-up, and how you can literally turn the game into your own fictional universe. Plus the simming and layout was quite impressive. So even though I barely follow what happens in the MLB world anymore, this game MAKES ME LIKE the SPORT of BASEBALL again!! But yes, I definitely like the strategical/managerial aspects of assembling teams, watching players progress and decline, history, and playing god with an association. |

As a sport, I like baseball. It's a great game. But, Major League Baseball, IMO, is corrupt. I don't want to start a debate. But, there are things about MLB I don't like at all. Financially, the sport is a mess. The Yankees and Red Sox and Dodgers can buy who they want. But also, you have teams that sit around and don't do ANYTHING to win. Salary floor and cap are needed. Then the drugs. It took YEARS for drug testing to come in. Realignment? Hate it. Astros in the AL, gag me. Brewers in the NL, gag me again.
OOTP...I do baseball MY way! |

Fan of the Mets. I watch just about every game during the season. This game allows me to add to my love of the actual games.

I've honestly never been a huge fan of playing the game, but I've always loved the statistics, team management, and watching the games.
Not sure if that answers your question. Kind of I guess. |

I honestly cant see other reasons not to implement the DH in the NL other than "tradition" which is the stupidest argument ive ever heard. Its just what old people past their prime use to say "I dont wanna. Waaaaaa!". Same thing goes for expressing yourself on the field. The only reason is the stupidest "unwritten" rules. Especially if a hitter pimps a hr and the pitcher pegs is what irks me the most bcuz the putcher should be pissed he gave up a dinger not that the hitter is pimping it. You also dont see guys like jose fernandez and clayton kershaw pegging guys for pimping hr, its always bad pitchers (and MadBum)

I've always only kind of liked baseball (there's not much of it here in the UK) but OOTP has made me like it a lot more.

I kind of like the way it is now withe the DH in the AL and not in the NL. There's a place and purpose for the DH, and it allows us in some cases to see the extended careers of guys like David Ortiz and Paul Molitor. But I don't want it to come to the NL because there's a place for baseball without the DH too. It allows us to see good (and bad) bullpen management, double-switches, and the value of defensive play. They are two different kinds of baseball, and I enjoy seeing them coexist in the same league.

I like that the DH is the rule in one league, and not in the other. It allows for style differences. I personally like less runs and better pitching, so I'm not really a fan of the DH...but with how much stress pitching puts on a person, I can totally understand wanting to keep them focused on their main job. The whole "everyone else fields and hits" has some merit...but hitters don't pitch either. So that argument kinda backfires. The amount of stress placed on the pitcher is almost like being a Quarterback in football. So you can take your pick. I'm glad they realigned though...uneven or geographically unsound divisions bug the crap outta me.

i think i stumbled on ootp 9 while looking for a replacement for madden which was ending its pc games. i remember going through the should i buy it should i not conundrum for a while (maybe a week). once i got it after struggling through a bit of a learning curve, i couldn't believe the depth of the game and i was hooked. i have bought every one since. Not really a baseball fan anymore though. i haven't really watched many games since the early 1990's, though i was a big fan as a kid.

For me, it's the fact that I am a huge baseball fan that makes OOTP so enjoyable. It's made me enjoy baseball even more. I own both Franchise Hockey Manager and Football Manager and appreciate how well both those games are done but do not play either of them near as much as OOTP simply because I do not follow those sports like I do baseball.
