What's New in Franchise Hockey Manager 5
Some have asked, so here's what's new in FHM5 (this is taken from the Manual):
New tactical system that allows you to choose your level of control over how your team plays: choose your tactics at a team-wide level, then, if you wish, modify them for individual lines and players. Compete against friends around the world and decide who has the best hockey strategy. A New user interface makes it easier and faster to do what you want to do while managing your team. The new team chemistry system lets you find the right balance of player personalities that will maximize performance on the ice. Staff personalities have also been expanded, so you can set your team up for long-term success by hiring staff members that fit best with your plans. Additional in-game graphics make it easier to follow your team on the ice. Historical Random Debut mode allows you to start a historical game with the debut dates of players randomized, so you might see today's stars playing in the 1920's or legends of the 1950's playing in the modern NHL. Restructure your league by editing the divisional and conference structure, or add or remove teams. Generate new schedules for a league on-demand. Choose to start your game on July 1 instead of just before the preseason. Updated leagues, teams, and rosters to their 2018-19 configurations. Expanded history in the modern database, including full historical international tournament results. Expanded statistical tracking, including new categories like zone starts. Set the national origin of players in custom games to your exact specifications. And many more smaller features and additions! |

What about expansion?
How will that be handled? Can AHL and ECHL expand separate from the NHL? What's the most teams for the NHL/Custom League(s)? |

Having tested random debut for a few weeks now, I can tell everyone that it is an absolute blast!
In one of my test files, Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe were TEAMMATES with the Buffalo Sabres in the 90’s. They also had Nicklas Backstrom and Bernie Geoffrion. As you could imagine, they were an absolute powerhouse.

Not the largest changelog ever but the way the tactics have changed alone is worth the price of admission - IMO (YMMV).

You can call up all your players and there are pre-season games. No scrimmages or intra-squad, no tryouts.

You can go larger than before, but again, it'll be through FA. Last edited by Adam B; 09-30-2018 at 01:25 PM. |

How about staff hires? For example can you hire a coach under contract with a major junior team to your NHL team? Or promote an assistant coach or AHL head coach to your NHL team coaching staff/head coach?

What about WHA players(players who never played in NHL or for just a short time) can they play as random players in the NHL? Last edited by Orioles1966; 09-30-2018 at 01:35 PM. |

What about the WHA after the 1978-79 season?
Can it be continued as the WHA (or could you start a fictional WHA for the 1979-80 season)? |

That's cool because I am not a fan of expansion drafts and many times with OOTP,I will start teams from scratch or let them sign FA's.

- At setup you select a starting point - example being 1960. - You then choose if you want to use recalc or the development engine. - You choose whether you want the rosters to be randomly set up already, or have a random group of players enter an initial league draft. You do not choose which players will be available to you at startup. - The players when you start the league will all have random ages. You may have a 30 year old Sidney Crosby and a 20 year old Maurice Richard. - Each summer, a new random class of players will be available to be drafted in the entry draft. Guy Lafleur and Joe Thornton may be in the same draft class etc.. As for the WHA, it is included the same way it is in regular historical mode. In one of my test file, I had a young Doug Gilmour and Connor McDavid as WHA stars.

Not that I’m aware of, but another tester or one of the developers can correct me if I’m wrong.

I think you can add another conference so if that's true ,what happen's with playoff match-ups if there is a third conference?

Also, with a lot of talk about editing league structure, changing schedules, and using the editor to expand the league: I'm assuming NONE of these features are available in Challenge Mode? Or is Challenge Mode (or whatever FHM decided to call it) gone?

One more question about random players.
Could the entire 1965-66 Montreal Canadiens show up in 2017-18 but the players would all be on different teams? |
