Your opinion would seem not unreasonable. The author here starts to give a thumbs-up but then proceeds to downgrade the proceeds.

What would you expect to get for a mediocre rental player? I thought Brett Phillips alone was worth more than two months of bleh myself.

Oh yeah, and the dumbest part of this trade is moving Shaw to second base (a position he has never played) to make room for bleh. Brewers fans should be scratching their heads this morning.

I agree with Orcin. I almost wrote last night (well, this morning at midnight) when I heard about it that every talk radio person and fan was going to complain....unjustly...that the prospects weren’t enough.

This was a deal for MLB players. Not prospects. If the Royals insisted on prospects, they’d have gotten very fringe players. He’s just not that valuable. Mostly because teams now so value their prospects and he’s not Manny Machado...but also because he’s, in my opinion, a world class a-hole.

Phillips is a pretty good return by himself. He is an immediate upgrade over every outfielder but Gordon and Bonifacio on the Royals, and only Gordon makes the list because of his defense. Guess what else! Phillips plays center. Weird. Almost like they Royals made the same analysis of the outfield I just did. The Royals are running out absurdly poor players there. All year. They have no one who can both hit and defend at that position at this level in their system.

The fact that they got a flyer on Lopez, who I think is a possible fit for a bullpen spot if they want to build up the pen to where a starter only goes 6 and you’re golden, is a bonus.

I keep hearing about Moose being an *******. What's he done? Why do people call him that?

Even though Phillips is likely a 4th outfielder, he has the tools to be an everyday centerfielder in the big leagues one day with consistent reps.

The fact that you got that much for Moose is kind of remarkable. I consider him a replacement to 2 win player who has performed better than expected the last two years.

and phillips has to be better than other OF options of Paulo Orlando, billy burns, Donnie dewees, rosell Herrera, or bubba starling

Herrera at least has flexibility of position though, like Merrifield can play just about anywhere
