Charlie Sands - cleaner
Not only did he only get that one at bat while spending all of 1967 as the rostered Yankees bullpen catcher, but he was in camp with the team in 1968, 1969, and 1970 without getting any closer to returning to the majors than 67 games in AAA.
A spring training shot, I believe from 1967, after some kind of collision with a baseball or a razor blade or both: Last edited by Merkle923; 08-04-2017 at 12:44 AM. |

BTW having seen his file - Topps did not have any images of Sands with Oakland.

Cesar Cedeno 1970
Kyle's is currently selling this team issued postcard I have never seen before, as Cedeno spent only two months with L.A. in 1986.
Only other color Cedeno Dodgers image I've seen was posted by tnfoto right here on page 872 of this thread. |

Mike Beard 1974
Not a lot of color of this Atlanta lefty of the '70s - including one in the very, very generic Braves' 1976 windbreaker.
Tuesday's Topps uploads (KC): 281-282 Gil Blanco; 283-286 Damaso Blanco; 287-290 Mike Beard; 291-292 Larry Bearnarth; 293-294 Gary Beare; 295-296 Mike Baxes; 297-298 Mel Behney; 299-300 Rick Behenna; 301-302 Charlie Beamon Jr.; 303-306 Bob Beall; 307-308 Jim Baumer; 309-310 Frank Baumann; 311-314 Earl Battey; 315-316 Bo Belinsky; 317-320 Mark Belanger. Bo Belinsky 1962
Quite a tour at the end of his career and seldom seen in color in any of his stops: Houston, White Sox (minors only), St. Louis, Angels again (minors only), Pirates, Reds. Topps takes care of the Houston one, spring training 1967:

Rick Behenna 1983
Highly thought of, wild right-hander whom the Braves sent to Cleveland in the 1983 Len Barker trade. 11 starts for the second Tribe over three years and not a win among them.

Jim Baumer 1949
One of the more curious figures in baseball history. After just 85 games as an 18-year old shortstop in the Three-I League in 1949 - and only batting .218 - he was inexplicably promoted to the parent White Sox. There he made five starts, went 4-for-10 plus two walks, doubled, tripled - and went back to the minors the next year and stayed there until the Reds brought him north twelve seasons later (one of the longest intervals between major league appearances in history).
Now 30, Baumer got eight starts at second base, but on the day of the last of them Cincinnati completed a trade for Don Blasingame of the Giants, and that was it for Baumer. Thirteen days later he was unloaded by the Reds to Detroit just before the cutdown date. He played three more years in the minors and then at 32 joined the Ni****etsu Lions of the Japanese Pacific League for five seasons as a slugging infielder (and getting on a couple of baseball cards there). Returning to the States he became a scout, then farm director of the Brewers in 1974, then their General Manager in 1975, and ultimately a Phillies' Vice President. |

Good Evening Guys - Not sure if this is correct procedure, or not, but I am looking for possible pictures of Jack Reed, Ken Hunt and Russ Snyder in New York Yankee Uniforms. They formed the starting outfield for the 1958 New Orleans Pelicans ironically Managed by Charlie Silvera. Thanks so much for any help anyone may be able to provide. This is my first day as a member so, please forgive my ignorance.

The only thing I have for Ken Hunt as a Yankee is a scan of his '60 Leaf card, and I have nothing at all for Snyder in pinstripes. There's a "help finding photos" thread here. |

Here is Ken Hunt, colorized by ortforshort in another thread, and the original B&W pic.

I can't believe you found the pictures of Jackie Reed and Ken Hunt so quickly - thank y'all so very much. Was not sure if Russ Snyder ever attended training camp with the Yankees, with both of them, as he was traded to Kansas City. Again - thanks very much.

Ken Hunt
Here's another Hunt as a Yankee. Google Jack Reed Yankees - there are 6 or 7 good photos there.

Russ Snyder
Russ Snyder was a non-roster invitee to the 1959 New York Yankees training camp, but remained on the Richmond roster during that period. He was returned to the minors in early April. I searched three different newspaper services looking for a photo of him in a Yankees uniform, but came up with nothing. Perhaps one will turn up someday if you keep checking eBay and other sites periodically.

Randy Bobb
The Vault has given us some Randy Bobb before, but these are better Bobbs. Maybe the best Bobbs yet. (I'll just be Bob-Bob-Bobbin' along here).

Not especially tough as a Cub. Don't see him as a Giant too often. I just love the name (and how can you not hear it said in the voice of the PA dude from Montreal?).

Ike Blessitt 1972
Local kid from Hamtramck, Michigan who fought his way through the Tiger system to reach the majors 44 years ago this month - and got exactly five innings in the outfield and five plate appearances before dropping back to the minors - was still active in the Mexican League as late as 1988.
