Cards notes: Injury updates on Rolen and Tavarez
Injured third baseman Scott Rolen, who is dealing with tightness in his back, made his first start in over a week in the Cardinals' 7-6 win over Atlanta. He had one hit and scored two runs, but I have been warned playing him could worsen his injury.
Tavarez is day-to-day for the next four days with shoulder inflammation. |

August 29: Cardinals 5, Braves 4
Game 129: Cardinals 5, Braves 4, at Busch Stadium, St. Louis
Rec/Std: 61-68, 4th. 9 GB Pittsburgh W: Reyes 4-3, 5.73. L: Holmes 3-5, 3.13. HR: Anderson 6. Player of the game: Cardinals starting pitcher Dan Haren allowed two runs on four hits over 8.1 innings. He struck out six and walked three. He also had an RBI double. Anderson was 2 for 4 with a home run and an RBI single in the ninth to tie it at 4-4. Edgar Renteria later drew a bases-loaded walk from Darren Holmes to win. Note: Haren took a shutout into the ninth before allowing three straight hitters to reach base. Closer Jason Isringhausen took the mound with the bases loaded and no out. He retired Andruw Jones for the first out but allowed four straight singles, as Atlanta rallied to tie the game. Alberto Reyes had to come on to strikeout Brad Adamchick to end the inning and keep it at 4-3. Isringhausen's future as closer may be in jeopardy. |

Cardinals ready to welcome Reds
Coming off a four-game sweep of Atlanta, the Cardinals remain at home for a three-game set with the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds come into the series just a half-game in back of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL Central standings.

August 31: Cardinals 8, Reds 7, 16 innings
Game 131: Cardinals 8, Reds 7, 16 innings, at Busch Stadium, St. Louis
Rec/Std: 63-68, 4th, 7.5 GB Pittsburgh W: Suppan 15-7, 4.37. L: Moncayo 1-2, 5.67. HR: Bruce 34, Anderson 7. Player of the game: The Reds' Jay Bruce was 4 for 7 with a two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. The Cardinals' Marlon Anderson was 2 for 6 with a home run, a run scored and three RBIs, including a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 14th that kept the game going. Note: A really strange game. Cincinnati scored twice in the top of the ninth to go up 5-3, Cardinals scored twice in the bottom half to even it. Same thing happened in the 14th. St. Louis won it in the 16th, after Jim Edmonds led off with a double and scored on a Ray Lankford sacrifice fly. * Jeff Suppan was slated to be the Cardinals starter for the second game of this series, but because St. Louis ran out of relievers he was forced to pitch, allowing two runs in 3.1 innings. Fortunately, rosters expand to 40 players on Sept. 1, allowing me options (probably Matt Morris) to pitch in his place. |

Cards news: Morris called up for emergency start; five others join him for roster expansion
With no starting pitchers rested enough to start the Sept. 1 game against the Cincinnati Reds, the Cardinals have recalled veteran right-hander Matt Morris to make an emergency start following a 8-7 16-inning win the previous day where scheduled Sept. 1 starter Jeff Suppan had to pitch 3.1 innings to finish the game out, earning the victory.
With rosters expanding to 40 players, the Cardinals have made five other additions to the major league roster. Getting the callup are relievers Randy Flores and Kurt Moore, outfielder So Taguchi, infielder Hector Luna and catcher David Ross. This is unfortunate for the AAA Chandler Centaurs, who are only a half-game out of a postseason berth in the West Division of the Southern League. Last edited by rink23; 03-16-2018 at 01:34 AM. |

Game under protest
Someone is getting tired of me playing OOTP.
I have no idea why it wants to post the pic upside down, but you get the drift. Last edited by rink23; 03-16-2018 at 02:05 AM. |
