Olympics in 2023? WTH??
This takes the unrealistic part of the game to a whole new level.
Also, according to Wikipedia there are fewer than 8000 people living in Wangen-Brüttisellen. And the World Championships are also in Switzerland that year. |

Two weeks have past and no explanation on how this could happen. Ruined a fun save I was having and really puts me off from starting a new one with a possibility that it could happen again.

I'm not understanding why this should ruin your campaign. If you look back at the 1932 and the 1980 Winter Olympics, they were hosted by Lake Placid, New York. The census in 2010 put the population of that metropolis at 2,521. The host city doesn't have to be terribly large if there is a surrounding area that can provide support.

You missed the main point. There was a Olympics tournament in 2022. Why should it be played again in 2023?

Did it actually play an Olympic tournament in Switzerland in 2023 in the game? I suspect this may be something wrong with a news event, probably related to the World Championships. I've seen bugs occasionally result in a skipped Olympic year, but never create a new tournament in the wrong year.
