New to the game...of baseball itself. Question about DFA and waivers.
So this question is more about baseball generally than about OOTP in particular, though it goes to the underlying issue of how to use the transactions screen.
So if you want to drop a player to the minors, you have to put him on waivers first, wait till he clears, and then you can move him. Assuming he can be moved. (I get that some players can't be moved, for contract reasons, or something.) Is that basically correct? In the interface a player can appear on the Waivers list and the DFA list at the same time. Is there a circumstance in which a player can be assigned to somewhere other than the 40 man roster *without* having to go through waivers? |

However if you want to take them off the 40-man roster you will have to put them on waivers. Players with a ^ can refuse a minor league assignment.

I don't fully understand your second question, but I'll offer: Yes, a player can be sent somewhere, but if he's on the 40 man roster, and DFA'd he must be traded, waived, or released, so use your 40 man roster wisely. Don't fill it up too fast. Leave some room if you can, so that you have the ability to call up a minor league player to the show for a stint during a regular player's DL time, if necessary. Again, I'd read through the roster rules for baseball thoroughly before making a costly mistake. Here's a link to the manual page discussing DFA rules. If he is DFA'd he has to be traded, outrighted to minors passing waivers, or released within 10 days
