Random Debut Problem
I'm trying to make a simulation of the MLB from 1901-2011, using the Random Debut feature. The problem is that when the simulation gets to around the mid-90s, fictional players start popping up. I can't figure out why. Any plausible year I start the league in--1871, 1901--the fictional players always show up, and always start making it big around the beginning of the 21st century. Is the game running out of players to debut or something?

How many minor leagues are you using?
If you start at the beginning with a full slate of minor league teams you will run out of players in about 100 years. Start with no minors, and then add AAA around 1910, and that's it.
Since you are using players that actually made it to the majors there is no need for 5 minor leagues to develop players. One seems to work just fine. If you are still getting fictional players in the early 21st century, post back...I haven't gotten that far with mine. |

Yeah you ran out of players. I use a Spritz-Gambo all players real debut DB and I simmed up to 2030 til I ran out of players. I also decreased my Ammy Draft pool to 5. There were a few times were I had to create a fictional player since a team ran out of pitchers due to injury.

Ghost players
Use them in the minors.
Have not had an issue with needing to create players. Have over 100 players in FA pool. I am liking this setup as a premium is placed on SP in drafts and trades. A guy that can work innings is a valuable player, even if his ERA is well above the league average. And a true number one, not even a CY candidate, is golden. |

It's all right--after this post, I downloaded the Spritze high school database and didn't run out of real players. I wasn't using minor leagues in the original, and I still don't use them.

I just posted a thread in the general forum very similar to this. I noticed this morning that no matter how few rounds I decide to use in the draft, the game imports enough players for a 10 round draft. The extra players simply become free agents.

I havent noticed that. I had a 2 round draft with enough players for 2 rounds. 124 players since I have AL vs NL association (64 total ML teams). No extra players.
