Importing and converting in Sketchup

Finally going through all of Silvam's tutorials. So good... really takes the mystery out of 3D modeling in general.

Quick question though: If you want to take an existing model out of sketchup to convert it for use in OOTP, what are the parts of the tutorial I should pay attention to? Texture mapping and stuff? Or do they really apply to converting?

You most likely will need to re-texture everything. And on both sides of each face. It sounds daunting but if you use the select all faces with this texture, it becomes easier.

When I mean re-texture, I mean taking a texture that won’t show up in the game and picking a different one and re-coloring, etc

So, how do you figure out what parts need to be re-textured? Do you just bring it into the game to see what is black?

Pretty much. Yeah. Just create a stadium folder in the ballparks directory , put your .skp model there. Open the game. Export to obj in sketchup. Load up the obj in the game. Check it out. Fix in sketchup, export. Check the game. Rinse and repeat

You can also check in Sketchup in a couple ways.

The quick way is to just select everything and then right-click and choose "Reverse Faces." Anything without a texture needs to be painted on both sides.

You can check faces one-by-one as well: This face, for example, need to be textured on both sides:

Also, make sure the model is sized correctly and it's a good idea to check that the blue/red/green axes are set properly.

Are there only certain textures that work in OOTP or as long as a texture is reversed it will show up?

I know I saw in the tutorials that solid colors won't work.

Any material I have found besides the colors work. I just colorize whatever material I use. Usually metal or asphalt

OOTP has issues with alpha transparency as well - glass textures don't work. Fully transparent textures (or parts of them) work fine, but anything that is less than fully transparent or fully opaque will render black in-game.

Yes. It would be nice if this could be enhanced somehow in future versions to allow this. And shadows also
