Timing of Expansion

Great Game.

I'd like to take control of an expansion team in a regular 2014 game (or 2015 if that works better).

Here's the problem right now -- you say expand league and you get expansion that occurs in March 2014. Too late for free agency, Rule 5, etc.

I'd like to setup 1-2 minor league teams for my franchise, then watch the year (2014) go by, take part in the Annual draft, then have the expansion draft in the autumn once the season is over and then have a regular off-season. You know, the way the real expansion teams do it.

....so how would I set that up?

Thanks.

AC

I have done a manual expansion just after the season ended by waiting till after the playoffs and immediately scheduling the expansion draft -it will be set for a few days after the current day. Not sure about being able to set up minor league teams in advance, don't think the game supports that.

Thanks Peregine!

I may try to create an expansion AAA team, leave it non-affiliated and then see if I can get some player development going....though what will be available I have no idea....and than affiliate it with my new MLB franchise.

i have thought about this a lot lately especially after watching " The Battered Bastards of Baseball" (see it on Netflix) your only problem is that you would not be able to draft anyone in the Ammy draft and would have to sign FA's who will not be all that good. A lot depends on how many FA's you have in your league and such.
You should always expand when the offseason starts or the 1st day of FA which is when i do it for my EBL vs MLB league but i tend to control who gets picked in the expansion draft.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if you do set up expansion after the 2014 season ends, when would be the best time to do that?

Personally I recommend to do it pretty soon - in my leagues I have the amateur draft after the season and like to make sure expansion is done before that so that the new teams get some top draft picks to try to fill in their rosters.

Personally i would do it the 1st day of Free Agency. That way teams do not have to protect FA to be and gives the new teams the option of signing FA's.
