Easy Edmonton rebuild

I started with Oilers because I wanted to find out how long/difficult it will be to make them good and contenders. Granted I'm only done with one regular season (playoffs to come) but it was to easy in my mind to make this team good. At the start of the game I made some trades that I was delighted with:

1. Cory Schneider (NJ) for Ryan Nugent Hopkins (straight swaap)
2. Roman Josi (Nsh) for Mark Fayne, rights to William Lagesson, 2016 1. rounder and 2016 2. rounder
3. Justin Faulk (Car) for Cam Talbot, Griffin Reinhart, Andrew Ference and 2017 1. rounder

Just after the season started:

4. Erik Gudbranson (traded befor to NJ) for Justin Schulz and 5. rounder in 2016

At the trade deadline:

5. Andrew Ladd (Wpg) for Luke Gazdic, Linden Vey (claimed from waivers in september), Lauri Korpikoski, Anders Nillson and 2016 3. rounder

After the Ladd trade the season really took off and I finished with 14-4-0 and won the division with 46-33-3 for 95 points and 3. place in conference. Funny thing here was that all 7 teams in Central finished in top 9 in the conference and because division rules 10. placed Calgary got in with only 79 points.
Connor McDavid was everything and more in his rookie season with 35+54=89 points in 81 games, Second line centre Draisaitl finished with 21+44=65, while T. Hall 23+36=59 in 61 games. Roman Josi was fantastic with 17+38=55 as was Justin Faulk 15+36=51. Cory Schneider did struggle for a long time but finished strong with 33-20-1 2.62GA and .911%.
I will soon start playoffs and 1. round match up is with Dallas who had 94 points while LA (2. in Pacific) got Calgary who like I said only had 79 points.
I don't know what the future holds but in my mind it was kind of too easy to get players that I got and the price(s) wasn't too steep.

Playoffs are done. I lost in WCF to presidents trophy winners (122 points) and SC champions St. Louis Blues. I won GM of the year and McDavid was rookie of the year.

Could you try it with some realistic trades?

None of those deals seem 'out of this world' daft... you're mostly trading away solid roster players and 1st and 2nd round picks, not the scrubs and 4th or 5th rounders you'd have probably gotten away with packaging up in FHM1

Well I'm a Jets fan and I would probably lose it if that was the return we got for Ladd lol. Not exactly a great haul!

Ladd is horribly undervalued in this game though. He's easily a top 10-15 LW in the league and is valued like a 40 point player.

What were Yakupov, Slepyshev, and Yakimov stats?

Yeah in my Jets save he's been a disappointment. 3 seasons in and he's in the 40 point range each season, I think he did hit 25 goals once. But he's been bouncing from the 1st to 2nd line and still not much. Power play time too.

Right after I re-signed him for like 5 years and 5.5 mil too

The leafs are tougher to rebuild if you're looking for a challenge.

This at the very least attests to the accuracy of the game...

The Ladd trade is "out of this world" daft. The other ones, while unlikely, are better than what you often see in threads for sim games.

not only that, but my first year of the leafs i was sitting at 4th place in the east after 20 games, then it all went downhill finishing 5th last at the end of the year.

I think the Jets play so far this season reveals just how criminally underrated their top line is. They are the second best possession play line over the last 5 years. And were the 11th best scoring line league wide last season. I find if you break them up they seem to do better. Which is odd because historically that has never been the case with them.

In my games as the Quebec Nordiques I always trade for Ladd after the expansion draft and he is usually my best player in the first few seasons as I try and build my team. Good line mate for some of my draft picks.

Again nobody but Stamkos and Byfuglien got resigned from bigger names and all others are FA. I played with NJ before and the same thing happened.

Agree. This team should be scary good in the future, are already very good and their talent pool is the best in NHL.

Ladd is a 4* at the start of the game and has actually declined to 3.5* in most of my saves 3 years on, so you couldn't argue he has much upside potential. Plus he's on a nasty 7-year contract at a cap hit of $5.6m.

In return for shifting him off the books the AI gets Vey @ 3.5*, Korpikoski, Gazdic and Nilsson @ 3*, plus a 3rd rounder. Korpikoski in particular has excellent defensive stats which I would argue undervalue him slightly at a 3* rating in game.

By all means argue that Ladd himself is under-rated, but that doesn't mean the trade was ridiculous, particularly given his contract terms.

I signed him to 6 year deal worth 6,25m per season. Does anyone knoew here if you can move some teams to other division because I expanded and would like to get Quebec to Atlantic division, move Buffalo to Metro and Carolina to Central?
And in second season now Hall has 20 goals in 18 games. I hope he stays healthy.
