Round 9
Judah out-punches Mayweather, as Floyd seems content to cover and allow Judah to blow the rest of his load. Although Judah took the round, I'm thinking that Mayweather may be in the perfect position to begin his rally. The drama is as thick as I've ever seen it! Most ringsiders have it even!

Round 10
IT'S OVER!! A left hook from Judah catches Mayweather pulling straight back - right on the temple!!! Mayweather lands flat on his back! He beats the count at 7... and referee Frank Cappuccino lets the fight continue. Judah jumps all over Mayweather with about 15 unanswered punches and the fight is STOPPED! Zab Judah, who relinquished his Welterweight title to campaign at 140 with the hopes of having a rematch against the man who stopped him years ago (Kostya Tsyzu) has captured the undisputed Welterweight Championship of the World with a 10th round technical knockout over Floyd Mayweather Jr. whom he fought to a draw with - 5 years ago. The crowd has seen a fight for the ages tonight!

The scorecards tell the story. Mayweather's two-knockdowns in the 7th put him comfortably ahead. Judah's knockdown of Mayweather in the 10th, however, was all it took to turn the tide for good.

My scoring of the fight was identical to the 3rd judge, John Poturaj. I can't believe anyone would give Mayweather the 9th.

The turning point in this fight was the 8th round. Judah arose from the floor twice in the 7th and tore into Mayweather. Judah's corner, sensing the fight was slipping, rolled the dice with the highest of high-risk strategies and struck gold. Floyd wasn't the same after the Judah assault of the 8th round.
Tonight, Zab Judah pounded his way into fistic immortality with the win over the previously undefeated Floyd Mayweather - who (besides a draw with Judah) was coming off an impressive stoppage of Miguel Cotto and the favored to win this fight. Here's comes Michael Buffer with the call... Ladies and gentlemen... The winner and new IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC, WBO junior welterweight champion by technical knockout at the 02:11 mark in Round 10... Zab... Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper.... Juuuuuuuuuuuuudaaaaaah!

Carl Froch is defending his World Super Middleweight title right now against Mikkel Kessler. Both fighters have been down but Froch is more than holding his own. A shade of things to come in the Super-6 tournament?

Kessler's face is a mess. One has about 75% shut, the other 40%.
They're entering the 14th round. It has been a very entertaining fight.

Froch floors Kessler in the 15th round and retains the title via a unanimous decision.
Feels good to be back in "A Title Bout Universe" again!

Universe Updates
Retiring Fighters Zab Judah: The pound-for-pound king in this universe is coming off an impressive stoppage win over Floyd Mayweather at 140lbs. With nowhere to possibly go but down, Judah hangs them up for a career in Rap Music. Jersey Joe Walcott & Tony Galento: Both fighters turned the sport upside down by winning the Heavyweight Championship of the world (and Peoples Championship title) under the guidance of veteran Jersey trainer Lou Duva. All three, including Duva, are retiring to the Jersey Shore for a little R&R. Paul Berlenbach: The Astoria Assassin finally got his shot at the title against Joe Calzaghe. He lost a unanimous 15-round decision. Berlenbach then decided it was a good time to call it a day. ========================================== The Heavyweight Division The Heavyweight division is now wide opened. Larry Holmes and (ficticious) Bazooka Joe Mack are both poised to capture pieces of the title. ========================================== The Cuiserweight Division ONeil Bell has made 5 successful title defenses since being stopped by Orlin Noris several years back (during his first reign as champion). Top challenger for the title is Steve Cunningham. Tomasz Adamek is ranked #5 in the world at the time of this writing and was TKOd by Joe Calzaghe in his bid for the Light Heavyweight title earlier in the year. ========================================== The Light Heavyweight Division Joe Calzaghe still reigns as undefeated champion. A drop down to Super Middleweight to fight Carl Froch is a possibility before retirement. Chad Dawson is the top contender. ========================================== Other Champions: Super Middleweight Carl Froch World Champion Middleweight Julian Jackson World Champion Jr. Middleweight Cory Spinks World Champion Welterweight Title Vacant Jr. Welterweight Title Vacant Lightweight Julio Diaz World Champion Jr. Lightweight Erik Morales World Champion (2nd reign) Featherweight Orlando Salido WBA, Chris John WBC, In-Jin Chi IBF/WBO Jr. Featherweight Israel Vazquez World Champion Bantamweight Rafael Marquez World Champion Jr. Bantamweight Alexander Munoz World Champion Flyweight Nonito Donaire World Champion Jr. Flyweight Will Grisby World Champion .

Hi Jersey-Jim,
Just checking in with you. Miss reading your "notes" in your uni. I read that you are taking some time off but I was wondering if you could give us some great reading material through your excellent universe. Maybe just a quick note to throw those of us that follow "notes from" a little bone? Thanks, Jersey-Jim, and hopefully, will hear from you soon. Take care. |
