Not enough SP in random historical debut league

I created a random historical debut league starting in 1960, with one level of minors (AA). There weren't enough starting pitchers for all of the teams. After auto-drafting the inaugural draft, I noticed that most teams had 5 starting pitchers, some only had 4. Minor league teams had no SPs. Of the 50 players drafted for each of the major and minor teams, most had 5 starting pitchers and about 20 relief pitchers. No SP free agents are available either.

I created 3 leagues like this, and the same thing happened each time. It seems the game does not generate nearly enough SP for random historical debut leagues.

Adjusted in next patch. Keep in mind though that the importer assumes you do not use any minor leagues, so the number of players imported for each position is fixed.

I just downloaded the latest beta 17.2.31, and created a new random historical debut league for 1960, with no minors (25 man roster + 15 man reserve roster). I'm still seeing the same thing after auto draft. Most teams have around 5 SP and 15 RP. I would expect to see more of a balance between SP and RP (maybe 8/12). As it is, if one of your starters get injured, you have NO backups.

Markus, any chance we can have the option of choosing how many players we want to import for a random debut inaugural draft? Example, if I'm starting in 1946 with 16 teams and want 25 man rosters with 30 man reserve rosters, I would simply ask for 880 total players to import. OOTP is the most fun when we can make use of injuries, but you have to have enough players. Thanks.

Oh, that would be complicated I am afraid Right now it is solely based on the league strategy settings which are set per default.

Thanks for the reply. Ugh, I was afraid it might be complicated. Just thought I would ask. By the way, random debut is by far one of your best creations. Thank you.

How many players are available in your random debut, David? I set up a 24-team league and more than 1000 players were generated, enough that each team had 44.

Yes, 44 is the default, which works fine, if you leave injuries set to low or very low. Can get dicey if you use normal or high.

Could you do something like cheat - create your initial league not with 16 teams but with 30 or 40, then after the players import but before the inaugural draft, simply delete the extra teams?

The quality might end up being more like an All-Star league, but you would have more guys to play with, right?

That's what I do now. My current RDL started as a 1 subleague 12 team league. I started the league in 1946. Created league, then simply deleted 4 teams to get down to 12. Doing this gave me enough players to use the high realistic injury setting right from the get go. I'm now in year 52 and the league is up to 16 teams.
