Exclamation Common Questions - Check Here First!

"Error reading setup intialization file"
Your setup program may have become corrupted during the download process. Please try to download the setup program again, and retry.

Game freezes when I change skins
Skins take up to several minutes to load, especially on older machines or machines with low RAM. We've seen skins take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes to load. During this time, it may look like the game is "frozen," but it isn't really. Just be patient. The wait only occurs when you change skins; it won't happen the next time you load the game with the currently selected skin.

How do I improve the auto-play speed?
Auto-play speed is affected by a number of things, most importantly your computer's hardware and the scope of your league. But, there are a few things you can do to improve the Auto-play speed:

1. Reduce the # of game logs and box scores you save. Go to Game Setup in the Game Menu. In the Global Setup tab on the left, scroll down to the bottom and look at the Auto-Save & Boxscore Options section. The fewer box scores and game logs you save, the faster the game will auto-play.

2. Change to the "dialog view" for auto-play. Go to OOTP Preferences in the Game Menu. In the Use Simulation Screen drop-down, select "NO, faster Dialog View." This will cause the standings and stats not to display during auto-play, but it will speed things up.

3. In the same place as #2, reduce the frequency of auto-saving (if you dare ). Less saves = more risk, but faster auto-play.

4. Some users have reported poor performance when they have an anti-virus program running. While we would not recommend you go without virus protection, you may want to consider disabling it temporarily to determine whether this might be a cause of poor auto-play performance for you. Some of this may be due to the fact that the game is constantly creating new dynamic report files, and your virus program may be taking the time to scan each of these.

For Mac users: You may be able to improve performance by disabling spotlight indexing on the OOTP folder:

a. Do any spotlight search.
b. Then click on spotlight preferences.
c. Next click the privacy tab.
d. Now click the plus sign and browse to the OOTP folder under the application folder.

This will block spotlight from indexing the OOTP folder.

Error when starting game: "The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005). Click on ok to terminate application."
In your Control Panel, open the System control panel applet. Click the Advanced tab and, under Performance, click Settings. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab. Change the Data Execution Prevention ("DEP") setting to "turn on DEP for essential sevices only" and OK out of the control panel. Try again.

I can't see Overall Rating or Overall Potential Rating in my views or filters!

Instructions for Making Overall/Potential Ratings Available in Custom Views and Filters in OOTPB 2006:

Note: By following these steps, you will lose any custom views or filters you have created. Custom views and filters affect all saved games, so it does not matter which saved game you created them in, they will all be lost. This is unfortunately necessary, because the format of the data used to store the views and filters cannot accommodate the new ratings fields. We recommend you make a note of your custom views and filters before proceeding, so that you will have an easier time recreating them.

1. Apply the OOTPB 1.0.2 patch.
2. If necessary, make a note of any custom views and filters.
3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2006\data\tables (or the directory in which you installed the game).
4. Delete all files from the tables directory. These should be named things like "all_messages," "all_message_filters," etc.
5. Start up OOTPB.
6. You can now take advantage of the Overall Rating/Overall Potential Ratings in custom views and filters.

My Scouting and Stats drop-downs are overlapping!
This is a known issue, for which we have a workaround. This problem occurs when you create a custom view that includes both ratings and stats, causing the scouting AND the splits drop-downs to be displayed.

The workaround is to either change your view to only include one or the other, or to go to a ratings view, select the scout that you want, and then return to your combo-view.

I'm trying to do something with my license, but my e-License control panel applet won't open!
This appears to be an e-License/Windows XP issue, not OOTP, but a number of us have experienced this, and e-License has yet to provide a solution. Here's a workaround:

Download a freeware program called Explorer XP from http://www.explorerxp.com. It looks a lot like the Windows Explorer file viewer. You can right-click on the "GAME.EXE" file within Explorer XP (replace GAME with your game name), and it allows you to unlicense from there.

(Note: I've found you may have to double-click on the .EXE file from within Explorer XP to get the unlicense option to appear; this will load the game, so just close the game and right-click again on the EXE, and the unlicense option then appears.)
