Question about Fictional Set Up

I wanted to set up a historical league from 1901 with fictional players - pretty standard and simple but I want to get it right from the start.

I want to follow the development of the MLB as far as minor league affiliates/no draft until 1965/reserve clause until 1975 etc. The only difference being, I want no colour barrier from the outset.

My question is - where will the new players come from up until the first amateur draft? Will new players be added to each minor league team in the offseason?

The plan was to start a game in 1901 (with no history imported) delete all players and replace with fictional and begin with an inaugural draft - then sim 30 years before picking a team. What do I need to make sure I tick and untick to make sure everything works as it should? My main concern is that 'disable automatic creation of free agents' box. I don't want free agents - I want the minor league teams to be populated instead.

I would also like more realistic default player origin settings for the historical league - am I right in thinking that the default is modern MLB settings and with real players turned off generated players will be based on this?
