2015 Toronto Blue Jays

In hopes to once again contend after being disappointed over and over, the Toronto Blue Jays have parted ways with Alex Anthopoulos and named Tyrone Brooks as their new GM and VP of Baseball Operations.

Brooks previously worked in the Front Office of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Baseball Operations department. The 2010 season marked Tyrone Brooks' first year as a member of the Pirates Baseball Operations department. He was named to that position on December 2, 2009.

In his previous role, Brooks assisted General Manager Neal Huntington in all aspects of Baseball Operations including rules compliance, arbitration preparation, transactions, budgeting and contract negotiations. He also provided recommendations regarding personnel, strategic planning and decision making for the Baseball Operations department.

Brooks spent the three seasons before working with the Pirates (2007-09) as a Professional Scout with the Cleveland Indians, with an emphasis on the Pacific Coast League, Texas League and California League while giving secondary Major League coverage.

Prior to joining the Cleveland organization, he spent 11 years working with the Atlanta Braves, most recently as their Director of Baseball Administration in 2006. He originally joined the Braves as their Baseball Operations Trainee in May of 1996 through the club's Career Initiative Program. Brooks also served the Atlanta organization as a Baseball Operations Assistant, Area Scouting Supervisor, Assistant, Player Personnel and Director of Baseball Operations.

PERSONAL: Tyrone was born on 10/9/73 in Bethesda, MD, and currently resides in Pittsburgh with his wife, Stephanie, and daughter Olivia (12/4/09). He is a 1996 graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, where he double-majored in Accounting and Marketing. He was also a staff photographer for the Terrapin Yearbook and the highly-acclaimed student newspaper, The Diamondback, while attending college.

The Blue Jays are hoping that Brooks' experience and knowledge can lead them to becoming a contending team once again.

Changes Being Made

New GM Tyrone Brooks wasted no time in making changes within the front office and coaching staff.
Assistant GM Andrew Tinnish was fired and replaced by Scouting Director Brian Parker. Parker's previous position was given to Ernest McFarland. Manager John Gibbons was also given his walking papers and replaced by manager Bill Smith who has little experience, but is known for his easy going personality.

GM Brooks: "I am going to revamp this front office and coaching staff. Expect more changes soon."

Blue Jays sign SP James McDonald

Toronto has signed SP James McDonald to a minor league deal. This looks more like a move to add depth to the pitching staff. he was signed by the Cubs before the 2014 season, but did not pitch with the big league team. He last pitched in the majors in 2013 with the Pirates. He pitched 29.2 innings with a 5.76 ERA. He will be presumably playing in AAA for the Blue Jays.

More Changes/Season Update

So the First week has passed by, and it did not start well at all. Not only did the Jays go 1-5. but Marco Estrada is out for 6 months with shoulder inflammation. However withing the first week, Brooks replaced the Bench Coach (Moe Hill), Pitching Coach (Jim Shellenback), Hitting Coach (Gene Tenace), and the Team Trainer (Ruben Diaz).

GM Brooks: "I've set up the coaching staff and front office that I felt was the best in order to push this team into contention. Now I want to get the players this coaching staff needs in order to succeed, and make this a winning ball club. My plan is to have this team in World Series contention within the next 2 years."

C Russel Martin Out for 2 Months

Russel Martin is out for 2 months with a strained hamstring that he suffered during practice. This is a huge blow to the Toronto Blue Jays, who just recently signed Martin over the off-season to provide excellent defense behind the plate, but to also help the pitching staff out with is ability to frame pitches well and call a good game. The Blue Jays have called up C AJ Jimenez from AA Fisher Cats. Jimenez is an excellent defensive catcher but is limited offensively. The starting catcher is expected to be Josh Thole.

Season Update
The Blue Jays have won 5 straight games to improve their record to 6-6, good enough for 3rd in the AL East.

Sanchez is in the bullpen and Norris is currently in AAA. I plan on calling him up soon after I get the rest of the team set up.

BREAKING: Encarnacion Traded to the Royals

New Toronto Blue Jays GM Tyrone Brooks has already made headlines, less than 2 months into his new job. He has traded All-Star and fan-favorite Edwin Encarnacion, newly acquired 1B Justin Smoak, and minor league RP Colt Hynes to the Kansas City Royals for 1B Eric Hosmer, and three prospects: SP Foster Griffin (L), CF Elier Hernandez, and SS Orlando Calixte.

GM Brooks on the trade: "It wasnt easy letting Encarnacion go. He is a vital part of this lineup, and I originally planned to try to work out an extension with him to keep him here, but I felt with the pieces we were offered made this too good of a trade to pass up. I feel like this is a trade that allows us to be very very competitive in the future."

SP Foster Griffin was rated as the #77 prospect coming into this season. Hernandez and Calixte are both highly regarded and expected to be factors on a major league club withing 3 years.

Trades Trades Trades: Goldschmidt comes to Toronto

GM Brooks has made the headlines again. This time for acquiring rather than trading away an All-Star. The Arizona Diamondbacks trade 1B Paul Goldschmidt to Toronto for 1B Eric Hosmer, CF prospect DJ Davis, and pitching prospect Tom Robson. Toronto seems to have found the offensive replacement to Encarnacion, while not giving up too much.

GM Brooks on the trade: "Once again, this is a trade proposal that was too good to refuse. Goldschmidt is a force, both offensively and defensively. I hope we can work out a deal to keep him here for a long time."

Indians, Blue Jays, Dodgers Complete 3 Team Trade.

The Dodgers receive: RF Clint Frazier (Indians)
CF Dalton Pompey (Blue Jays)
The Blue Jays receive: CF Joc Pederson (Dodgers)
LF Daniel Murphy (Indians)
The Indians receive: SS Jose Reyes (Blue Jays)

All three teams are expected to benefit from this trade. The Dodgers receive two very highly rated young outfield prospects. The Blue Jays get one of the top outfield prospects in the game and also a veteran presence with Daniel Murphy. The Indians receive , when healthy, arguably the best SS in the game.

Blue Jays Make Another Trade For SS Desmond

After trading away SS Jose Reyes, Toronto had a hole at the SS position. The quickly filled that when they traded SS prospect Dawel Lugo and 3B prospect Mitch Nay. With two already highly regarded SS prospects and Josh Donaldson manning 3B, Toronto was able to comfortably trade away these players. They get in return a solid veteran presence in Ian Desmond. He should be able to fill the SS position until one of the Blue Jays prospects is able to break into the majors.
