iOOTP 2012: Bigger and Better Than Before

The Out of the Park Developments team has been hard at work on iOOTP Baseball 2012, and we’re ready to reveal the list of new features in the latest version of our popular iOS game. We’ll be releasing it in early April, just in time for Opening Day and concurrent with the release of OOTP 13, the PC/Mac version of the game.

As in last year’s game, the HD iPad version is included free, and many of the game’s screens have been reworked to take advantage of the larger display. Some iPad screens, such as the box score, have been improved from last year’s game to allow the display of even more information.

We’ve revamped iOOTP’s user interface, as you’ll see in the batch of screenshots we’ll be releasing soon, and we’ve greatly improved the roster management and trading AI.

Leading off iOOTP’s new features is the 2012 roster set. Every player on every major league team is available, with complete ratings and career stats, along with the top 10 minor league prospects for each team.

The entire 2012 major league season schedule is also included.

Detailed player histories, including award histories, are now available, and there are more league leaderboards (Game Center), for a total of 8.

Historical seasons also now have real schedules, so you can play through your favorite team’s past seasons as they really happened.

As in last year’s game, iOOTP 2012 includes three free historical seasons. We haven’t determined which ones to include yet, but you can offer your vote in this thread on our forum:

On the fictional side, iOOTP 2012 includes one new fictional setup, along with the ability to choose any year to start your fictional league, complete with stats and finances from that era.

While managing a game, you can opt to use pitch-by-pitch mode, and you can sim until a specific inning. You can also change game options during a sim.

iOOTP also offers a variety of other new options, including:
  • The ability to edit league, sub-league, and division names (division names are editable only in the iPad version)
  • The ability to use the DH in any league
  • The option to disable finances

Finally, we’ve enabled iTunes Share, which makes it easier to transfer saves or add logos to the game.

Stay tuned for those screenshots showing off the game’s improved GUI. And you never know: a surprise feature or two may be unveiled before the game ships in early April.

I think that this is what I'm most excited for.

Great work! I can't wait for April.

Can you edit players or create players from scratch?

So, if I understand, the user could start a deadball season in a fictional world, set up his 16 teams with proper league names, and have all the financials off, no DH going on, and watch every pitch of every game? Amazing improvement--right? Will the stats be automatically historically correct? A fictional league in 1905 has very very few HRs?

No and most likely that will never happen.

Yes to all points.

Additionally you can disable finances in all historical seasons or 2012 and you can turn on/off DH in all modes as you wish.

So so so can't wait, and one more question:
Will early American leagues (say circa 1905, whatever) exclude logically improbable names from countries that didn't have representation in the majors at the time? If not, can we modify the names source file?

Excited to see the screens for the game as the new additions sound nice. The game is so good that I didnt expect huge new features just lots of little things to improve it as a whole. The main thing Id like is customization and it seems ye are giving that to us which is nice to see .

I was wondering would it be possible to give us different scheduling options for fictional league creation?? Its just something I thought of because currently you never play the other conference. It would be cool even if you could get one series against some of the teams in the other conference. At the league creation you could choose which type you wanted. Just something ye might consider.

Are you planning to support the new iPad's retina resolution? Having the text and information that sharp would be fantastic and a real selling point.

You mention that "detailed player histories, including award histories, are now available" - can you elaborate? How far back will the stats and award histories go?

Loved iOOTP 2011 and looking forward to 2012!

Past purchased seasons

This has probably been answered somewhere else, but what about past seasons that we have already purchased? Will we somehow be able to play those in iOOTP 12? Possibly import them through iTunes?

Thanks!

print?

Seems like the most important feature lacking last year has still been ignored. the ability to print (AirPrint) box scores and standings etc...
Unless I missed reading about it I guess it has been ignored again in spite of my numerous requests. That should have been the number one addition. I guess I need to give up.

When you add some form of Commissioner's mode I'll buy it and play it.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Editing

I enjoy the ipad version of the game greatly.

It is too bad that one will not able to edit the players as in commissioner mode as it is in OOTP 12. That makes the game more realistic.

However wll continue with present game

Thanks for the update
