iOOTP

I currently don't have a PC able to play OOTP11, so the news of iOOTP was music to my ears. Is there any new news/information/screenshots for iOOTP? Is it just going to be a simulation game, or will we actually be able to play out the games? I know it's not scheduled for release until Spring, but any news will help me get through these long winter nights.

Work on iOOTP 2011 progresses nicely, yesterday I played 2 seasons with a MLB setup on my iPod while sitting next to my girlfriend watching some girl-stuff on TV (sorry honey, I have to work ).

Beta-Testing for the iPhone/iPod version should start pretty soon.

For your question:

You can sim your games or play them out, just like good old desktop OOTP. The options for simming are the same as in dOOTP (day to day, date, event, ...).

Is this also being developed for the iPad?

Most likely it will be for the iPhone/iPod and the iPad.

That's good. I hope it's priced appropriately. Seems the average is about $5. I haven't seen any over $10.

Will the play by play include the full pitch by pitch that the game has now?

I'll be tempted to get one of those phones now.

Yes, thats the price range we aim for.

What do you mean? If you play out your games it is on a AB by AB basis (like the old OOTP). For the PBP output you can choose between the normal (detailed) text or the faster one-liners. Hope this helps?

I remember a post stating that the game will be limited due to its implementation on the iPhone/iPad. Is this is true, what would those limitations be? Also, I have dOOTP (desktop?), would I be able to buy and install my current league into an iPhone version and continue my league? Thanks!

I think I member reading that you'll only be able to play out 1 season (2010 for example). You can't progress to 2011.

Oh, does this mean only real (not fictional) leagues? Not my cup of tea then.

Maybe. And don't shoot me if I mis-read/remembered/ interpreted the thing entirely.

Lets hope for a fully-functional OOTP on the iPhone! Verizon just got the iPhone, which was my biggest roadblock to getting one. I'd gladly pay for iOOTP to run my league on my phone, how cool!

With the hard drive and memory requirements of ootp I seriously doubt if the i version will be full featured. Certainly not for a cost of $5-10. I don't see this as a replacement for the real game but for a supplement that will offer some fun play when travelling or whatever.

It is not possible for us to bring the desktop version to the iPhone/iPod without removing some stuff. The hardware, even the iPhone 4 hardware, is limited and the small screen size makes it really hard to show a lot of informations.

So think of iOOTP as a baseball sim you can play when you travel or when you have to wait somewhere. The sim-engine, the news-system, player development and so on is the same as desktop OOTP just a little bit less chrome (no insane split-stats for example).

Nope, iOOTP is, as its big brother, a career sim. So you are absolutely able to sim more then one year (including career stats for example).

iOOTP will support 2011 Major League (with the normal limits due to licensing!) and a few different fictional setups. So it is possible to play fictional but not to create your own universe like in the desktop version. Again, this is due to the hardware we are dealing with.

It will be possible for us to add new fictional setups later in updates but you have to remember that a) iPhone/iPod programming is totaly new to OOTP and b) OOTP source code is totaly new to me. So we want to release a solid first version and then build on top of it.

Btw, historical play most likely will also be possible, but more on that later.

That sounds awesome. My work days are going to get less and less productive. Now that I have OOTP 11 on my work laptop, it's all I can do most days to not sneak a game in.

Luckily I have disciplined myself to only playing while I eat my lunch.

Thanks for the clarification. I certainly didn't expect the same feature load for obvious reasons. A basic league set up would be ok by me.

If you wanted to play the iOOTP or any of applications on the app store and do not want to have to sign a phone contract or pay for monthly phone service you could always get an iPod Touch.
It is almost identical to the iPhone having the same hardware and high resolution screen. You can access the App store from wi-fi and have access to everything that the phone can access.
