Signing released prospect

Have a player that was picked in the draft years ago, signed by the team but never left the juniors. The contract ran out and teh team didn't resign him. According to his profile (and every other indication) he was an unrestricted free agent. When I tried to sign him, it would only allow me to set the offer at the entry level contract, and the program wouldn't let me make an offer. The player wanted more, which I was willing to give, but couldn't. It didn't stop another team from signing him though.

Yeah, he should've been willing to accept the entry-level amount. What amount did he sign for with the other team - the correct ELC maximum, or more than that? (And I'm assuming you were trying to sign him the same year he became a UFA, not several seasons late after he turned 25 and got too old for ELC status?)

he was 20 years old, but everything said he was UFA. He signed to teh other team for the $925,000 max

So it obeyed the max there, interesting. We'll check it out.
