Cleanup hitter unhappy with lineup spot
Tom Ward, my cleanup hitter is upset enough that he wants to be traded because for some reason, he doesn't realize that he actually is the cleanup hitter. Eh?
Oh, and the trading deadline has passed. And by the way, we're in a division race, 3 games out at the beginning of September. True, his personality blurb says that he is "thick-headed". I can imagine the conversation: Ward: I demand to be traded. I want to hit in the middle of the lineup! GM: Huh? You've been hitting fourth! Ward: Yeah but I want to hit in the middle! GM: Well, half of 9 is 4.5. Are you saying you want hit 4 and a half in the lineup? Ward: Yeah, so trade me! GM: The trade deadline is over. Ward: Trade me anyway. I can't take it. I wanna hit in the middle! GM: Uh... OK. We'll look in to it. (walks away shaking his head) (OK, OK, Full disclosure: he's got a huge platoon differential, so although he does hit fourth against righties, he hits 8th against lefties - so he's upset about that I guess.) |

He is probably not happy that he gets moved to 8th against lefties.

Absent of his r/l splits, what's his splits in different slots in the batting order? This might be a moot point, if you play all the games (meaning they'd all be either 4 or 8), but sometimes the a.i. manager will move them around. I've had players that hit better at the #6 spot than at #8, with no other context (such as who's hitting in front, or behind) so, I find it best to slot them in at #6 and not ask questions.

And as a Karmic side note: just one week after his trade demand, Ward broke his elbow and was out for the rest of the season. |

While hitting eighth? Maybe he would have been if he'd been hitting in a different spot in the order and that's why he was unhappy. |

When I get guys like that, I let 'em fester till the off season, then trade 'em to the worst team in the league.

But, actually, I normally just ignore their complaining (unless they are a disruptive personality type). I traded him mainly because he was 31 and it was time for him to go not because of him being a malcontent. But I did have the complaining in the back of my mind when I made the trade... He must've been really unhappy, since I usually only get these complaining messages when the team is tanking. In this case we were contending. |

Yeah, plus he probably faces twice as many righties at lefties, so ((2*4)+8)/3 = 5 1/3. So he averaging out around 5th...
