Player Option Year question

I have a player who's final contract year is a "player option". I'd like to extend him beyond that and when we negotiate we can agree on terms, etc. The problem/question is that the negotiated extensions begin at the season following the "player option" year. Can/will the player exercise his option after signing the extension, thus making it void?

My intent is/was to buy out his option year and add years to a new deal. I'm not seeing a way to do this. Am I missing it? If not, does anyone have an experience regarding the outcome with this?

Thanks in advance.

If he has a player option and signs an extension yeah if he opts out it will negate the extension he signed.

I'm don't think you can buy out the player option once they have one.

you will get an email on first day of offseason saying said player either will execute the player option then you get him for another season but he might also reject it and go free agent thus negating the rest of contract.... Personally I do not like player options I prefer team option. I get player options a lot because AI likes it and when I trade for a player they have that option. There is away around it from what I learned is by offering a contract to said player and if the player accepts it seems the player option is therefore automatically executed. I have only done this once or twice but that was a few versions ago and I haven't tried it since … no I didn't cheat LOL
