Is Craig Allen a HOFer?

To me I say yes easily. Comparable to Smoltz minus the 3000 K. Hits are on the high side.

I would say yes. Aside from accumulating 70+ WAR as a pitcher, I'm a firm believer that the Hall of Fame is a group whose membership represents a relationship between the players and the fans. He played 22 years (14 of them with one team), and was a 9-time all-star. You couldn't have a HoF without him imo.

i would vote for him. However, I see him as a fringe guy whom I wouldn't cry about if he never made it in. He had a pretty unique career and was on the whole significantly better than his peers based on ERA+.

Dude would've been SO pissed after his 40 y/o season when he was dominant as a SP and then moved to the CL role.

According to your league's HoF standard measures, he is short across the board. Given that, I'd have to lean towards no.

Not a chance. The dude have but 346 starts and his low strikeout rate suggests he was helped by terrific defense.

Possibly, but he also did a really good job of keeping the ball in the park - low opposing HR totals. Looks like he threw a lot of hard-to-hit junk for many years.

Frankly I am surprised at the HOF metrics for this guy. Standards must be low to even rank him this well

He seems t o be ranked as a CL. There is only one CL in the HOF so far.

His stats doesn't show he was a dominating force or tops of his time. In my perspectives the HOF is reserved for the best of the best not of the decent to good players.

I am going to say "no" on this one. As a starter turned closer, he had a slightly (emphasis on "slightly) similar career trajectory as Dennis Eckersley but "Eck" had 390 career saves and was incredibly dominant over several seasons. Allen, on the other hand, had some good years as a starter and briefly exceptional numbers as a reliever. I think the more interesting question is why was he converted to a closer a season after winning 20 games while leading the league in ERA?

Infractions: 0/1 (1)
If you have to ask if somebody belongs in the Hall of Fame or not, then they don't belong in the Hall of Fame.
