What are all those squares on the ice?

When playing a game, as time goes on, there are a lot of squares on the ice with numbers from about 1 to 29. I mean, there are A LOT OF SQUARES on the ice. What are they? What do the numbers mean?

I wish the manual was more informative as I'm not opposed to reading it for answers. I've read it once and it's lacking. However, I'm sure over time it will develop.

I also need to be able to search phrases and not just words.

Thanks.

Thank you for the answer.

In my personal opinion, I don't like it. It's a mess and who cares where the shots came from. Is there a way to turn it off.

Thanks.

There are tick boxes at the top saying 1st Period, 2nd Period etc. Untick them

Same here. It's unnecessary clutter.

There was a way to change the screen in the first version. Don't know if that's possible in the second version.

I see the tick boxes and un-ticking the period as suggested seems to do the trick.

Can I see players on the ice? Is there an option for that?

No there's no option for that.

I also don't understand the logic of who cares where the shots come from or considering it unnecessary clutter.

Seeing where the shots come from is key to understanding how a game is developing. You can at a glance see if one team is dominating another (way more squares in one end!) ... You can see if your tactics might need adjusting to help you get the puck closer to the net for shots.. or if your guys are passing too much - spending a lot of time in the other team's zone but not getting many shots. You can evaluate how effective your powerplay is in getting the puck to the net... You can correlate just how good a scoring chance your star centre just missed out on, etc etc.. I could go on. To me having the shots there seems vital, but to each their own I suppose.

If I remember correctly, alot of people complained about it in version one and then it was pulled and then it was brought back as an option to make everyone happy.

They were big flags in FHM 2014 I believe - a little more distracting.

With FHM 2's new focus on tactics, I can't see the shot markers being anything but a must-have for any who like to coach.

Cole, I beg to disagree with you. I will say having them as an option is the perfect solution so I have no complaints.

The problem (as I see it) is if there are a lot of shots in the game. Many of them happen from the same place so you have marker on top of marker on top of marker. What number shot was that 3rd of 18 markers?

I like the shots appearing but would prefer if the numbers in the marker represented the shooter's number rather than the shot number. The former is much more helpful from a coaching perspective in my opinion.

That's a pretty good idea actually. You should stick this one in the official suggestions page

Options are always best so people can do what they prefer.
